Has anyone been sucessful in mounting shorty headers on a 1987 L98 engine. What brand and or part number did you use if available. "Yes I know the long tube should give more HP but car does not need it." Shortys would work fine.

I have heard you dont really get good gains with shorty headers, since they are almost what the car has factory. I had thought about shorty headers, but I am just going to save and get long tubes. I am not sure who has good shorty's I know tpis has good long tube headers, so you might want to start there.

You already have "shorties", in that your manifolds are tubular headers and not log manifolds. ;)

Lingenfelter has probably the best fitment, design, and quality but also the most money

I did not think that Lingenfelter still made C4 headers or at least the earlier C4's?

They sure don't. I just checked their website and they only have it for LT1 and beyond. There may be some used units out there but for what you'd pay for a used Lingenfelter set, you could probably buy a brand new set of a less "name brand" company.

What is the difference between Lingenfelter and tpis long tube headers?

The TPIS headers are going for $750 coated and I think the Lingenfelters were $900 coated. But they don't manufacture the Lingenfelter headers anymore. I've seen used TPIS coated ones sell for $600 on eBay before. They're touted as some of the best headers out there.

I also have the TPIS headers. They drop right in, great fitment. Great quality.
Ditto

if you say your car doesn't need anymore power that means your skeerd of it :gap

do yourself a favor and buy long tubes. i'm running the TPiS long tubes and they really woke up the car!

put some muffler eliminators on and feel about 50 more rwtq and about 30 rwhp. it's well worth it :upthumbs

The Hooker 2151's are good too, and a little less expensive. No problems with fitment. But then we are not talking short tubes as you requested ;) :w

Moon,

Are those coated? Are they fitted to use with emissions?

Corvette Headers

I am thinking about installing a set of headers on my 87 Corvette that will still conform to the strong California emission laws. Any suggestions?
I have a chance to pick up a near new set of a pair of Hugger type with all of the emission lines attached but not sure if they will be legal for use in this state as I don't see a CARB number any where.
Any help would be appreciated.

These are coated and they do not have the polution stuff on them, but they do make those as well. I think it's 2141's and I believe they can be bought coated or uncoated. I think the uncaoted has a "-1 or -2" designation on the end of the PN.

I have heard several people say that thy felt that buying the headeers not coated and sending them to JETHOT or there are one or two other above average coaters out there yeilds a better coating job then Hooker provides, ecspecially on the inner coating. I don't have any complaints so far.

Corvette headers

Thanks for your reply. I did gamble and purchased the shorty type headers with hopes they will be legal for use, they were orignally off of a 88 so fitting should be no problem on my 87 C4.
The original owner was in Minnesota so these headers were never installed on a California car.
Someone sent them to Oklahona City and had them coated and they look to be in great condition. As I mentioned earlier, they have what appears to be all of the emission attachments on them but still cannot find if they will be legal for use in this state.
I did locate a part number but unsure who the manufacturer is. 234798 Ho1x which is stamped on both headers.
I was just wondering if there are any other California Corvette owners who may have some knowledge of this particular set?
At the moment, I am in the process of building a 9.5 to 1 383 stroker for it using a Crane cam that is California emissions legal for the factory roller lifter block.
The Aluminum heads will retain the stock sized valves but will be fitted with a 3 angle valve job and possibly some mild pocket porting. I bought a Hyper Tech chip for it and plan to upgrade the fuel pressure regulator as well as installing a 160 degree thermostat.
I am forced to limit the amount of engine mods because of the rigid emission laws of the state so you can see my concerns.

Thanks for all of your help and I will let you know of my progress which I hope to be completed in a few months.
