I am in the process of removing emission related items from my engine bay. My car is exempt from emission testing (which we don't have here anyway) since I have it registered in the state of PA with classic tags. I will be saving all removed items in the event I ever want to return to 'stock'condition. I am installing a 2101 Edelbrock manifold which elimimates the EGR and I have removed the AIR pump and valves. I'd like to remove the stock header type exhaust manifolds which have the integral AIR pipes. I just don't want those nonfunctioning air tubes sticking up.
I'd like to stay away from full length headers for various reasons.
Does anyone know if they make shorty headers for C3 applications? I guess my other options would be to find another set of 81 type manifolds, burn off the AIR pipes and weld them shut or go with cast iron rams horns(least favorite of my options).
Well....what do ya think??

Dave

Hey Burglar, I just noticed you where from Hbg., I'm in Mechanicsburg, go to Knisleys on the Carlisle pike the guy in there had many Vettes, and should be able to fix you up with the shortys, and/or the answer and part#'s. It's a great HiPo shop

Thanks Tweek. I'm frow Mechanicsburg also.I live in Shiremanstown now.

Take care..Dave

Burglar, are you interested in selling the emission related parts? Ill take a ride. You wont have to ship them UPS

:D

mmvette80 - I am going to keep the emission parts in case I ever decide to return to 'stock condition'. I most likely never will but I'd
like to keep that option open just in case.

Take care.......Dave

Hey Dave, I have been searching for shortys myself and come up with nothing so far. I use factory style side pipes and currently run the cast ram horns. They "cleaned up" the engine compartment compared to the stock manifolds so untill I can find ceramic shortys I am stuck with them. I will keep looking and please let me know if you or anybody else can come up with a lead.

Its a deal Steve! Glad to hear from you again. After this miserable winter we had or are still having it will be great when we can get our cars out again. I may have to go with the ram horns. Somebody had a set of those factory headers on ebay last week. I bailed on the bidding once they got to $80. I saw they finally went for $180. If I could get a cheap set of those I'd burn those emis pipes off and I would be in buisiness!

Take Care...........Dave

Dave, I picked up my cast ones at the spring Carlisle show last year. I paid twenty dollars for the pair. Painted with cast blast high temp paint, they are the best I can do for now.

Steve - Good idea..Looks like I'm going to spring Carlisle.

Thanks.......Dave

Dont kill me if Im wrong but I think HEDMAN
http://www.hedman.com/pages/hedders/pass-chevy.html
makes a set of headers that would work for you.

Have you done the EDELBROCK manifold yet???
I am considering the same set up

(So many ideas!!! Sheesh!!!)

Burglar, I have a set of block hugger headers. Tried to put them on my '63 but the sidepipes wouldn't swing in far enough to match up. If you have an under car exhaust they may work. I'm just down I-83 in York. Classic

WOW, all these people so close, we all gotta get together for a afternoon ride sometime!

Jason - I am going to istall the manifold this weekend, but it will be a couple of weeks until I pull the car out of the garage. I've got some other things I am doing to the car also. I will be posting my progress with the intake job under the post titled "performer intake".

Classic - I may take you up on that offer. I am going to call Contemporary Corvettes in Bristol and see if they have a set of those 81 header type manifolds I can doctor up. They don't have to be perfect,as I would have the emission tubes removed and have them bead blasted. I'll let everyone know how this all shakes out.

Thanks guys.........Dave

Contemporary Corvettes tells me they don't have any of those 1981 header type manifolds and are one of the hardest vette parts to find.
Off to plan B..........
