Just bought a 75. amp meter won't work checked with ohm nothing ,checked wires with meter shows complete ciricut now what? found one for $95 but don't know what happened to old one so I'm leery about just sticking one in there any Ideas Thanks in advance

Joe,

When you put the VOM on the amp meter you say "nothing" I take it resistance is infinity? and not a 0 ohms?

If you have access to the circuit two leads try series in your VOM on the amp scale, start high then come down on the VOM, this will make sure the current is flowing to the meter.

Maybe someone here has a GM Shop manual that can reference the correct resistance. I would think it is a wirewound resistor. Show you how dumb I am I didn't realize they used amp meters, I thought almost all were Volt meters.. :duh

There is a place called RedLine Gauges too. I'll look around and find his address and get back to you..
REDLINE GAUGE and CLOCK REPAIR (sorry no web site)

Thanks for the reply Bud I'm kinda new at this more time than money you know how it is

Use a small AAA battery and QUICKLY touch the gauge terminals and the needle should swing one way, then reverse the leads and the needle should swing the other way. This will NOT destroy a working meter.

has anyone ever used not just vettes in Deer Park New York for interior parts?

JOE, i have an extra amp meter that (i believe) came out of a 75. let me know if you need one one. if so, i'll test it and make you a great deal.

For some reason 75'amp meters are not listed in any aftermarket books don't know why Now about that deal

JOE, i will test it tomorrow after work and let you know the condition. if it's good then we'll deal. <evil smirk>

how you gonna check it?

How are you gonna check it? be carefull I've heard you can't check with a ohm something about the battery in the meter

my 76 amp meter didn't work so when I redid the interior and replaced the centerconsole with a swap meet one and that one didnt work so I ditched the amp meter for a volt meter and use the amp meter wires to feed my CB radio. funny thing no one notices I have a volt meter instead of an amp meter:L

You can check the ammeter with a ohm meter with no problem, also as Ken says the test with an AAA battery is a very good way to check the meter movement with out damaging the meter
