Should front/rear speakers be same volume?

About 3 weeks ago I realized that my rear speakers operated at a lower volume than the front speakers with the fade control at TDC. I think I would have noticed it when I bought the '04 coupe in January - but I was paying more attention to other things at the time. Anyway, the dealer says that it's normal and that all C5's have lower volume rear speakers. I'm still not convinced. I have to set the fade control to between 9-10 o'clock to get it balanced. Is that normal? Are your rear speakers as loud as the front?

Wisdom,

To some extent the postion of your seat will have an affect on how you experience the fade balance. You do have to make these small adjustments like you've done.

My 98 and 04 both had to be adjusted to about 9-10am to sound balanced.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if the dealer was giving me the right story. Looks like they were! It just seems odd that both speaker groups aren't at the same volume level to start with. But I guess that's OK since I can barely hear the front speaker vocals at high speeds with the top off anyway!

Hi there,
What also must be considered is design.
By this, I mean that the fronts will handle high and low frequency. The rears are simply midrange.
Also, the rears are amplified by the radio, whereas the fronts are total self amplified, meaning that they have an amplifier inside the speaker unit.

Just turn off the radio and listen to the engine roar.....now thats balance!!!
