when ive got the ign on should i hear the feul pump running?
where is the feul pump?
there is a screw on cap on rhs feul rail near dissy cap is this where i take feul pressure reading from?
what pressure should it run?
where is the feul filter?
do i need to bleed the system?
thanx dave

Dave,

I have only a few minutes so quickly, the fuel pump is in the gas tank, really easy to replace, and yes you may hear it buzz.

Yes the screw on cap is where you get fuel presure from.

More later, I'll have to look it up.

The fuel pump will run for approximately 2 seconds when the ignition is first turned on and then it shuts off until the car starts. Yes, you can hear it run. It sounds like a buzzing noise coming from the back of the car. The car will actually operate over a pretty wide range of fuel pressures, but I believe it is normally around 37 pounds. The pressure should also hold without dropping for a few minutes after the car is shut off.

i dont hear anything when i turn ign on, fuel gauge shows empty but when i shake car can hear some sloshing around smells like feul but i wont be surprised if its water !!!!!!!!!whats the easyist way to access the pump? can i rebuild it or should i get a new one? can i hook it up to a battery out of the car and test it?

Dave,

Take the fuel lid door off, pull off the rubber boot, now disconnect the wires and fuel lines.

Clean the area really well so no crap falls in the tank, remove the screws all around the neck, then carefully pull out the neck, it is a long mess of wires and rods, the pump is at the bottom of this.

It's pretty easy to do, remember no smoking, and it's better if the tank is almost full, if it's almost empty there are more vapours in the tank, they go Boom, Bad thing :(

Here is the whole assembly

i bought the vette as an 86 but vin says its an 85 do you know if i have to remove tank to get the pump out?

ive been searching threads and one said there is an enertia switch to shut down pump incase of accident , is there such a switch and if so where is its location ?
also do you know where the feul pump power feed comes from?
apart from fuse panel rhs door is there any other fuses, relays,or fusible links i can check?
i appriciate your help and luv this forum not a lot of people know a lot bout these cars in aust!!!!!!!!!
thanx dave

Dave,

Did you just take the door off or did you take the black panel off under that as well, around the gas filler tube is the rubber boot I'm talking about.

And NO you do not need to remove the tank to remove the pump, although some manuals say that.

I'm not aware of any inertia switch.

What's the VIN, I'll check it for if you like.

Also, if it's a coupe it should have the third brake light above the hatch, if a vert then it is on the rear.
