Update:

Aside from the traditional brick program and the newer bench program, there may be a few new ideas offered in 2008 and implemented into the NEW NCM Expansion Plans :cool

I spoke with a new rep. at the NCM yesterday and there are some cool sounding thoughts for how to dontate for the NCM Expansion while havng your group recognized - There are a details on the program - which has not been officially announced yet (we were actually the FIRST to hear about this idea :cool ) that will follow in the coming weeks.

If hearing more about these ideas sounds like something we might want to get involved with, I have a tentative meeting set up for early-mid Jan. :w

Thoughts??? :beer

WOW...that is wonderful....tell me when to send the $

Definitely want to hear more. Callaway's were such a unique piece of Corvette history, I think our contribution should make a statement. A loud statement. :D

Thanks guys for the posts and for the emails on this - While the details are coming in, I can tell you the blueprints for the *new* part of the NCM were sent over today and there is a LOT of cool stuff coming - the aforementioned opportunities will be a part of this if we elect to do someting as a group. :cool

...now we just need to hear what *something* is :cool

To all who have sent emails and messages pledging your continued support, thank you! :cool

On Tuesday of this upcoming week, I will be meeting with the Corvette Museum folks to discuss some of the upcoming possibilities.

...stay tuned!!!! :beer

Folks, working with the NCM on a few ideas, they all sound so good :cool

Establishing a cmte. to better guide the Callaway Owners Group as we continue to work on this, all I can say for now, is it will be a few more days - maybe as soon as Valentine's Day for the official word :W

With the COMPLETE SUPPORT of Reeves on this, this is looking to be awesome! :cool

...stay tuned :w

Folks, I would like to provide an update to our fellow COG members on our NCM efforts, so I will attempt to summarize and
recap what has been going on.

The original idea discussed at the NCM-C4 gathering last year was that as a group, to raise funds and purchase a bench
in the name of the COG, with a etched drawing of models of Callaway Cars and a plaque to recognizing the names of the
contributors.

When talking to the Museum about the bench idea it became apparent that future bench sites were to continue to be placed
heading away from the main entrance of the NCM and closer towards the rear loading dock areas. Reeves mentioned that he
would match our fund raising efforts if we pursued something else other than a bench. So a committee of four of us was formed
to help move forward this NCM effort.

In further discussions with the Museum, a unique opportunity was presented which was tied to the upcoming Museum
expansion.

After reviewing the NCM addition plans, we changed the idea of the bench for the opportunity presented to us. While
the cost of this is relatively high (for our group which is strictly a voluntary organization), we felt that as a group we
would be able to raise the cost of this, particularly with a matching donation from Reeves/Callaway Cars.

To further add value to the opportunity at the center of our discussion, as the first group to undertake the Museum's
opportunity program for the expansion several other benefits came along with the donation:
- Press Release about the first group to participate in the program
- Group participation in the Museum symbolic ground breaking and ribbon cutting

Because of the amount required for this, we decided that a two tier donation program was required. A plaque would be
provided to us by the museum as its sponsor recognizing the COG and Callaway Cars. Furthermore, we
want the names of the individual donors to appear on the plaque in alphabetical order (by last name) for each donation tier, the
with names of the higher cost tier appearing in a larger font. Additionally to help increase the number of donors in the higher tier,
I will offer to provide donors in the higher tier a custom 3' x 5' poster that I created to commemorate the 20 years of Callaway
Corvettes as a take away, aside from having your name on the NCM plaque.

We want to begin the fund raising effort ASAP since we need to have the full donation to the Museum in place by June 30th.
We were anticipating to start fund raising efforts Feb 14th if an agreement was in place.

Aside from the above mentioned benefits, we additionally asked to have Callaway related documents to be included in the
"initial display" within the NCM which is part of the new expansion, to showcase typical items which could be
found within the NCM. We also requested a photograph of the group during the NCM ground breaking event
to accompany the plaque to highlight the program.

We feel that this represents equitable value (since it is a sizeable donation for the COG). We thought that both the NCM and
our committee were in full agreement per the conversation. We drafted an agreement document with these terms outlined but
after it was sent, the feedback was that it was further from what was discussed and were are currently awaiting additional
review from the museum at this time or even a counter offer agreement. We have not heard back from them for almost one week now.

We feel strongly that these items need to be in writing and not as per a telephone conversation because as I have mentioned
the total amount of the donation is large. I truly hope that we will have more information soon, that the effort remains positive
and materializes since we have worked very hard on this, with several weeks worth of effort. It would be a great opportunity to follow up Reeves' recent nomination
to the NCM Hall of Fame and to garner additional recognition of the Callaway Owners Group and Callaway Cars.

Wish us luck with the ongoing effort.

Best Regards,

Luigi

NCM Donation

It is a shame that we could not come to terms on this. The musuem is something that should be supported I am all for that .I guess they have all the money they need for the expansion. It seems we were not asking for too much just some recognition for our donation.

Folks,

I would like to provide an update to the group on the efforts of the Callaway Owners Group Committee on where we stand with respect to the NCM donation.

At this time the Museum has remained firm with their position, that they wish to do things even with new programs as they have in the past, not looking for creativity with the donations as they had implied and discussed, during the conversations held with us in January. We as a committee have talked about this just about every day and while we were tired, we remained hopeful that we could work this out for the hobby, for the museum, and for everybody.

Our flexibility was demonstrated throughout this experience however, our flexibility seemed to be misunderstood AND as a result communications have hit a brick wall. The museum was given several proposals, and while none seemed suitable, we still don’t know specifically why.

We would still like to work with a non-profit group and while looking at what we should be doing now, we as a group will review our options and where to focus our efforts and energy going forward.

Speaking for the COG committee.

This is disappointing since we all support the NCM.:confused

CalJim,

Yes it is very dissappointing. The committee has put countless hours of discussion and effort. As I mentioned before, we really tried. Several written proposals were submitted on our behalf but it just didn't seem to work.

Jim, you better believe we support the NCM - that was why this whole experience is still very confusing for us. ;squint:

We established a cmte. and even utilized a "checks & balances system" to ensure we were not missing something. We listened, made concession after concession to the point that any more, and the benefits to the group would be a wash.;shrug

In the end, we could not come to terms with their verbal proposal. It was important, based upon the discussions over the past two mos., to have a clear outline in writing. They dissagreed.

After two months, we as a cmte. decided that if forward progress was not realized this week, we would have to look at reconsidering our involvement.

That said, for you and the rest of the Callaway Owners Group, do you think we should pursue other ideas now, or??????

Thanks! :beer

I find it hard to comment on whether or not we should pursue something without knowing what we could pursue.

Personally, I would love to see some COG/Callaway "thing" at the NCM. AS I've said before, the Callaways are such a unique piece of history, they should absolutely be represented at the NCM.

Perhaps you could outline what the options are (maybe as a poll?) so that we know what the options and boundaries are. If the NCM is not allowing any 'creativity' in donations, then there must be a fairly finite list of things that are possible. If this is published somewhere else, perhaps a pointer to that list?

Jon, originally, the options were a $2,500 brick w/ the COG logo or a $5,000 bench with some form or design engraved. Neither were really liked much by Reeves, and he asked what else might be available.

We asked and learned of a new donation program where we would be able to sponsor part of the expansion. The recognition potential we thought, was great for this. We were encouraged to be creative and flexible however, in the end, flexibility was only seen on our end.

The donation levels for this, range from $10,000 to $2,500,000. Clearly, we would be on the lower end of that scale, unless somone was feeling really generous.

We set this up into a two-tier giving plan and the goal for donating $30,000 was very probable, as Reeves Callaway himself was supporing our efforts tremendously!

So that is in a nutshell, where were are at and a little about where we have been in the past few mos. on this. We would really like to support this, but with the NCM not willing to work with us on amicable terms, it makes it tough to know what direction to point.:ugh

The truth is they made verbal deals with us and when it was typed out on paper they said we were asking for too much.

We had typed out what they told us and asked what was wrong and come back with what would be acceptable and they would not . The NCM told us that they had a standard donation form that we would be given, then we were told they would have to draft up a donation form.

Everything we were told, was contradicted when it was put on paper. This was not a pleasant experience. The amount of time we wasted, and not even a counter offer, was absurd.

Sounds like it was ugly. I really wasn't fishing for the details, I was just wondering if the options were really limited to a brick, a bench, or something really huge. If so, there is a huge gap between there and really big $$ donations they are looking for. That's unfortunate.

It seems like there should be other, middle of the road options open, or that they should be more open to some creative suggestions. I would still love to see something happen, but it sounds like our options are pretty limited.

Thanks to all you guys who worked diligently on this, sorry this was the result. If that's the way they want to conduct, then I say move on, and especially don't lose any sleep over this one. If it's this hard, just wasn't meant to be and something better will come along!

I also thank you guys for the hard work. I agree it is time to move on. Who knows what is in store for the NCM in the future? Things and people change all the time!!!

WE HAVE SENT DONATIONS TO CHARITYS; ONLY TO HAVE THEM RETURN OUR CHECK WITH A LETTER STATING THAT THEY WHERE INSULTED WITH THE AMOUNT OF OUR DONATION.
