Ken-

I read on your site that you had the side exhaust. P

Was it worth it? I love my side pipes- in fact, I think that all Vettes should still be offered from the factory with them- but you are the only person I know who has had them.

If I go with a C4 (which is likely) I am thinking of side pipes.

I'm going to butt my head in here before Ken does and offer my "research."

I love the Side Effects and really wanted to get them for my C4. I talked to Ken, and also to about a dozen people at Carlisle and on the Corvette Caravan this past summer. Almost everyone really liked them - liked the sound, liked the look, thought they were relatively easy to install. However, about 2/3 of them had clearance issues (one guy at carlisle actually raised his Vette an inch to avoid scraping). The others had no issues at all with ride height, but a couple thought they were overpriced (esp. the LT1 version).

Since I already scrape fairly often, I wound up getting the Power Effects rear-exit exhaust from the same company.

If I could have quieted them down to the point where I felt it was livable with my new-found horsepower, I'd still have them today. I absolutely loved them!

The trouble was that although I threw everything in the Lawrence-Keech arsenal at 'em in an attempt to quiet them somewhat, I couldn't achieve the desired results, so I went back under the car with a three-inch system and Flowmaster 40-Series mufflers. It still loud, just not as harsh.

One other thing to keep in mind with the L-K Side Effects™ system is the fact that the system is heavy! I didn't realize it until I removed it, mainly becasuse I had J&D Corvette install the system for me back in 1998. The side pipes are constructed of what almost appears to be cast iron sewer pipe! :L

If you're thinking about purchasing a set of the Side Effects™ sidepipes, you can order toll-free at (877) 376-9739, or if you give Joe Markovicz a call at (616) 847-4200 and tell him I sent ya, maybe he'll cut you a deal. He knows who I am, and it can't hurt to try, eh? ;)

Thanks Ken-

So, it was heavy? Ok. I didn't think about that.

Interesting... sewer pipe. Withstands nuclear blasts and back hoes.

Do the pipes take off a little back pressure or not, say versus the stock pipes? (As you can see, I am very interested in the side ehaust!)

Oh yeah, it (the stock L-98) breathed a lot better with the Side Effects™ system. :upthumbs

That TPIS 3" system with the Flo's ain't too light, either! Quite a handful for this dude to install.

I seem to recall that the sharp angle required to turn those exhaust gasses to the sidepipes becomes an issue with hotter motors. I love the look, too, but felt I 'd choke my 406 with 'em.

It's too bad I wasn't able to compare the results between the Side Effects™ system and the set-up I am currently running. As you say Mike, I think it was choking my 417 more than the three-inch system, but because the car wasn't dialed-in either time when I had it on the dyno I can't say for sure how much. I have yet to see the full potential of my engine - it still isn't dialed-in and now I have a complete new engine management system. :eyerole

Speaking of which, did ya know the Hot Rod Magazine project "Match Bash" car The Wilshire Shaker is running the Electromotive TEC3 engine management system - the same one I'm using now. :D

Sorry about UR engine, Ken. I can promise that the wait and effort will be worth it!

I wish Gary Leonhardt was interested in doing more, like mine. I think I burned him out! But sheesh, how my motor runs!

I found the ElectroMotive (not GM's division) afterwards, but was VERY interested. It is not CARB, which may not really matter if the visibility stuf checks and the sniffer passes. No system could be smaggable, that is PC adjustable.

IMHO, a smart system, that will adjust the fuel tables and spark for optimum burn, is ideal for guys who get wild enough with their engines, to need new chips.

Seems, programming is part art; not pure engineering.
