I am kicking aroung the idea of putting a set of loud and obnoxious side pipe on the 78 but I dont seem to be able to find anyone who makes them for my year.

Where can I get side pipes for my 78?

Tom

If you should see any sidepipes advertised for a '78 they will usualy have a disclaimer for "off road use only" as it is technicaly illegal to use them on a '78 due to the EPA requirement for cat converters.

So...just look for side pipes for a '74 :D

tom, eckler's should have the header/sidepipe combo in stock. i'll be happy to help you install 'em

Dude, that would be awesome!! A very interesting mod, I would love side pipes. Maybe Mid-America has them, I'll check for you.

Well I'll put in my 2 cent worth. Hooker makes a nice 4 inch header side pipe kit that fits. I have them on mine and love the look and sound. They come in chrome or black. Cost is around $900 for the black. If you are in one of the states that makes you do inspections you'll may not be able to use them. Check your local laws first.

Good luck and post a picture when you get them on.

You can get a sly-looking set of factory style pipes with cats installed. A few hundred miles does wonders to make them look old and like they were "original".

In a lot of places, if the car passes the smog flog, you're good. People will be willing to accept a few "changes" as long as its clean and appears correct. I have seen a great many inspectors that don't know how many cats a car should have or not. They just look for one. Late model GT Mustangs have SIX cats. So, who's to say that a 70-ish Vete can't have two?-Other than the EPA.....

I also have a 78 and was toying with that very same idea. Does anyone know where I might find pictures of a 78/79 with pipes on? Could anyone recommend any brand of pipes also?
thanks

I put pipes on my '79...the covers are fiberglass painted black to match the paint, the pipes themselves are NOS from the mid-years.

I can tell you from experience...it does not sound like the mid year...but it does sound pretty good...takes about a day to put it all together...with two people...

unfortunately I have no pics and it is in storage about 2000 miles away...
