I just installed my skip shift kit in my 02 coupe and found that it works really well. The interesting thing is that the light on the dash does NOT come on anymore. I used the Hurst kit (I suppose they are all nearly the same), so I don't know if it is the kit itself or if there is a change in the 02's that make it react this way. Needless to say I was thrilled not to see the light when I fully expected it from what everyone has posted on this subject that I have read. If anyone has an 02 that the light DOES come on, then it probably is the kit. Anyway, thought some people may be interested to know.

I do not hve the Hurst kit, I used another CAGS eliminator. My light still comes on. It isn't a big deal but it is cool that yours doesn't!

wow... my light still comes on too. Mine wasn't the hurst kit either. The light just reminds me how glad I am I installed the eliminator :)
My light doesn't come on until the coolant temp has warmed up sufficently. Did you drive it around for a while?

Yes, I drove it about 35 or 40 miles as I also just installed a Blackwing on the car and wanted to try that out. (Yes, it REALLY does make a difference!) I didn't know if the car would have to go through a learning curve for the new air or not (I have not installed the MAF) but I gave it that mileage anyway to see. After a few of the spirited runs I had I am sure the coolant temp was up. But no light came on. I continually kept testing that one to four on the whole ride just to make sure. Mainly because of the fact that the light was not coming on. I have read other posts here and there from people who said that their light did not come on also, but I don't know what year car they had or what type of kit. If that light ever does come on , I will certainly post it although I don't think it will. If anyone does happen to change their kit OR install one in an 02 that has not been done yet, I think many would find it interesting to know the results.

Mrs. Schroder was right! I got curious so I took the car back out for an even longer drive and toward the end of the ride (about another 35 or 40 miles the dreaded light started coming on, but still does not come on all the time, . I was slowly accelerating to 15 to 20 miles per and got it to come on about 60% of the time. The good news is (as Mrs. Schroder says) is that the light reminds you of why you installed the kit in the first place. Well, that should end this post. I guess all the kits are about the same.

I also have installed the skip shift eliminator. Sure makes the car more drivable! Is it my imagination or is the shifter easier to move from gear to gear ? When I first got the car, that was the only thing about it that I didn't like better than my '93 6 speed. But this mod seems to have changed that.

Ken,
It certainly makes it easier to shift from 1st to 2nd sometimes!
All kidding aside, I didn't notice any difference right away. I have heard that as the car becomes broken in, shifting becomes easier after a couple of thousand miles. This seems to be the case for me, but I still am looking forward to putting synthetic oil in the transmission.

No Question about it. I have 3000 miles on mine and it has certainly gotten easier to shift as I crossed about the 1800 to 2000 mark. I don't think the kit has anything to do with that, but I thank the kit every time I go from first to second in heavy traffic!

Anybody that is bothered by the 1-4 shift thing is not shifting their car properly! It's that plain and simple. If you are being forced to shift to 4th gear from 1st, than you are shifting the car way to soon!
Come on and drive that car like it should be driven! Why would you ever be thinking of shifting the car at 1200 PRM's????
It baffles me everytime I see post aout this CAGS eliminator! :eyerole

Sometimes in heavy traffic you are forced with the choice of running the revs up in first and staying there for a block or so or going to second where you should be. Hard to drive it "like you should" when there are cars 10 feet in front of you.

Don;t stay in first for a block, shift to 2nd at 2000 RPM's, the way you should and you'll be fine!

I never have this problem, no matter what the traffic. You should NEVER be shifting to 2nd gear at 1200 RPM's no matter what the situation! I'm not telling you to race the car, I am telling you to NOT LUG the high compression motor which is what you are doing in 2nd gear at 1200-1500 RPMs!!

I also, don't care, just stating something that always makes me laugh whenever I read about it! Some people just don't understand what they are doing mechanically with their expensive equipment

One more note. What are you doing shifting to 2nd gear with a car 10 feet away from your front facia? Very bad habit!!!! :eyerole :nono :s :)

Well-said Glennm27. I too have always wondered about this mod and chucked a bit. 130,000 miles and "never once" had a problem with shifting into second.
To each his own I guess.
