Today, October 26, is the 15th Anniversary of the amazing 254 m.p.h. run by the Callaway Sledgehammer. If you have and interesting information or pictures of it, post them here. My pictures are from the museum during the summer of '02. I hadn't really been interested in Corvettes, but had read about this car on the internet. Then I got to see this beast in person and I'm not hooked for life!!!

Thanks for the heads up on Anniversary for this monumental event :upthumbs

Most interesting thing I remember hearing about it was, how after the car ran at the 110 - 115 mark, the TRC Staff thought that was all the car had - When Tim Good said no, it will go faster (more like 250mph) they pretty much blew off the idea and lost interest.

Not long after, the car was pushed to a part throttle run just shy of 250 :eek Then, TRC said will it go faster - The reply was "YES"

The car the (with speed tape installed) went an honest 254.76 mph;worship

Here's to Reeves Callaway & Crew for making history that still stands strong today - 15 years later :m

Somebody should contact Hallmark cards...... they need another holiday to celebrate and this would be a good one. Don't know how many cards they are going to sell outside Old Lyme, CT.......

:D

They should have the videos still however, they don't produce the "packaging" for it anymore - It may just come in a plain sleeve now...

call or e mail Joanne and ask her - Tell her "Hello" from me:w

This pic is a little blurry, but understandably so! 254.76 mph is QUITE

fast. (sorry, hit return by mistake)!

Also, I was at a car auction at Auburn this past summer, and I spoke with a guy from Mallet about a Corvette they had built (a C4, can't remember what year). He was talking it up a whole bunch, mentioning top speeds and such, and when I brought up the sledgehammer's record and asked him if they had beaten it and I missed something, he said something about not wanting to mess around with that because it cost too much to run the car like that, or something to that effect. Anyway, I don't know, I was then talking to the guy I was with and we both agreed that if you built a car like that and had a chance of beating such a tremendous record, you would certainly go for it!

Yeah, Talk is cheap :eek I saw an ad (For an LPE TT) said its top speed was appx. 250mph... Yeah right

why not 251, or 249.. I think it was a "theoretical guess" and since it could'nt be verified, it advertised as such.

Reeves created a legend w/ 88-051 I wish I had that car (In my living room)

Now that's an idea!! A vette would make a great center piece for my first home!!

So, where is that car now, anyway? How much do you think they want for it?? :) ;LOL

IN THE AUCTION!!!! I had better start counting my pennys!!!
