I have a '96 that runs warm, 205-210 without ac fans. Pretty typical I have learned here. Now it's 189- 195.

Dumped the Dexcool and went with Prestone. But I really think the darn cap, $4 Stant, did the trick. Also the engine cools down after shutdown much faster with the green stuff.

Nothing wrong with Dex if there are no leaks and kept full. The stuff looked new after 40k. But no chances. It has a bad rep.

Replace the cap. You can't look at the spring and tell if it's lost its mojo, and man it needs to seal or you're runnin' hot!

I have an '88 that runs hot (215-225) on the highway with the AC on. Once I exit the interstate, I often have to turn the AC off until it cools or the temp exceeds 235 (scares me to death). No problems with the AC off.

I intend to remove the radiator and clean before next summer.

What does the cap have to do with the heating problem?

Thanks,

J
