SBC 350 with new forged pistons

Hello

I have just to rebuild my small block for my corvette.
Here are the parts i have used to rebuild it.
Block 3970010 350ci
original connecting rods
New piston TRW-L2252AF40 from summit racing
original heads with volume chamber 76cc
Compression ratio 10.23:1

When i make a cold start, the engine crank without problems.
But when then engine is hot. It's very hard to crank it.
The gear of the starter is going up to the flying wheel but the engine move very slowly. But it's start ! "As a battery is out of order".

If you know where the problem is, i will be very happy.

The first idea is that the clearance between the piston and bore is to low
and when the engine is warming, the diameter of the piston increase.

And Happy new year from France !!

how old is your starter? do you have headers? could be the starter is getting heat soaked?

Hello
Thank you for your help.
I've just change the brushs in my starter but i think it have 25 years old.
Sorry but i don't understand "the starter is getting heat soaked" in french
is that means the starter is plenty of oil ?
And what are "headers". Could you be more explicit. Thank's
François

the starter is getting heat soaked == starter too hot

headers ~= exhaust manifold

is the starter too close to the exhaust manifold?

le "starter" est-il trop près du "exhaust manifold"?
y a-t-il trop de chaleur ?

hope this helps! == J'espère que j'aide

Merci pour ton aide. Thank's for your help
Do you speak french ?
The starter is very hot when the engine run for 20 minutes
I understand headers now and in french you say "collecteur d'échappement"
I got headers on engine.
They are oil in the starter when i put my hand under it, it is soaked.
I don't have shields around the exhaust manifold.
the distance between the starter and the headers is 15 cms (6")
What do you think of it ?
Thank's again

You have an oil leak, there is not suppose to be any oil in starter!

Mon Français est horrible. Il y a probablement des tonnes d'erreurs de grammaire. I'm heureux vous pouvez me comprendre.

Avez-vous tracé la fuite vers le bas ? Êtes-vous sûr il vient-vous du démarreur? Regardez les couvertures de valve.

For my english speaking friends:

My French is horrible. There are probably tons of grammar errors. I'm glad you can understand me.

Have you traced the leak down? Are you sure it is coming from the starter?
Check out the valve covers.

Hello
The Correct sentence is

So your french is so good. When i have rebuild the starter, i put oil into it to avoid the rust but it seem's that is not a good idea !
What do you think of it ?

Do you have a starter shield ?

If the engine ignition timing is not set correctly, that can cause hard starting.

If that is correct then I would think that the starter is your problem.

check solenoid

Hello -

I would check the ignition timing as suggested earlier. I would remove the starter and disassemble and clean the armature, etc. with brake parts cleaner. I would replace the starter solenoid with a quality unit (AC/Delco, NAPA/Echlin or Standard/Blue Streak).

Highly recommend using thermal wrap to cover the wires to the starter and getting a heat shield to cover at least the solenoid and/or the whole starter. Summit Racing has them. Good luck.
