Hey, all.......I want to temporarily (note that word) eliminate the AIR pump. I've done a search and found what I need to know on elimination, but like I said, it's only for a short period of time. What I need to know is what do I have to cap, close off or leave open? :confused I don't want to take any of the lines off, so what would be a good solution? Also, will I hurt anything as far as the cat, idle, etc.?
Any help is appreciated.

Gordon :w

Ken, would just plugging the hose that comes from the pump itself work?

Hmmm... In that case, what is the purpose of removing the unit in the first place? Most people want to clean up that area (as well as make that feeble attempt to grasp a few horsepower :L).

I guess you could just plug everything off. ;shrug

I'm not sure how the ECM gets involved. I'll try to remember to look it up. ;)

I don't see how plugging anything will really matter much, unless one is concerned about non-air fluids entering the device/pipe. I would be more concerned that the loss of airflow to the CAT might cause early failure of it, lacking the airflow to complete the combustion.

I removed the air pump from some older GM cars I had. I just capped the tubes to the manifolds and the cat. But be aware doing this eliminates the cooling effect of the air on these tubes . Over time they will rust or burn out. I am not really so sure the pump requires all that much horsepower to run. Only reason I did it was for cleanup of the engine bay.

Truth be known, I was just tired of the noise and thought I'd experiment with a gutted pump so I wouldn't have to buy the eliminator bracket. Needless to say, the SES light came on immediately and it wasn't that much quieter, so the regular pump went back on. I can live with it. I appreciate all the info you guys gave. :upthumbs I'll just stay legal for now.

Thanks again,
Gordon :w
