Well it was time for new exhaust- rear y-pipe all rusted up, so I ordered a stainless steel y-pipe, KBD Targa mufflers, and mounting hardware from Ecklers. I'm away at college right now, but I can't wait to visit home and hear the new roar!!! No better feeling then new parts on your vette.

very cool, I am going to dual with longtube headers in Sept when I have time to rip it out lol.

Wish I could go to true duels; inspection guy said I could still fail the regular safety inspection if I didnt have original smog equipment (this is my last emissions test coming up). Maybe headers in the future.

I also have the KBD Targa mufflers. I think you will like them. Nice throaty sound. One word of advice. After you are done putting them on, check your heat riser valve to see if it is working properly. If it is not working and is stuck closed, you will notice that the exhaust will be stronger on the driver side than on the passenger side, which of course lessens your power and exhaust sound. The heat riser valve is vacuum operated. But if it gets rusty like mine did it can stick in the closed position and the vacuum will have no effect on it.

I visited home last weekend.. all I can say is WOW!!! The sound is simply.. awesome. I thought my previous exhaust was cool sounding... but this is just.... everyone turns there head to see what the thunderous roar coming down the road is. And they look nice too.. you can see the shiney y-pipe when you're looking at her from the back (okay, well I can). I got a quick question though... Parts of the mufflers are painted red; like the actual inside of the pipes. Is that going to stay or will it go away with time? I like the looks but I thought it may be one of those "new part" finishes that goes away after a break in period.

On another note... I decided to bring my vette down with me.. We couldn't be apart any longer. I'm renting a garage at my apartment complex so she should be just as safe, if not safer then at home. I'm gonna get in a lot of trouble with these new pipes!!!

Yes Mommy... Just kiddin Bud! You don't have to worry about me, I got my priorities straight. I am looking forward to some cruise-ins though; they have quite a few at local gas stations and resturaunts. Nothing like that at home.

#1 looks good but I'd swap 3 and 4 around. Getting home to see the folks usually means a few $$ in the pocket and a mom cooked meal. Or maybe this is just how I see it now, years later. :l

-Tatortot,

:D Always good to see ya here ;) Yea we go back a few years now, eh.. I still remember those old days in the Lounge, I can't help but ;LOL

The Registry has several young members! Our new web master is also a senior in college this year. Speaking of our website, standby for a new roll out VERY SOON!!! Tim (gedmeyer ~ CAC Moniker) is another young man that brings great pride and honor to our passion. I'll leave it at that, but standby for more announcements to followl ;)

I used to have these mufflers on my '81. One word of advice is to periodically check the area where the mufflers are welded to the strap that connects up to the frame for cracking. These are heavy mufflers, and as the system flexes you can get cracking and metal fatigue and breakage. If you spot it early, it can be easily fixed. After the KBDs I simply deleted the mufflers altogether and went to straight pipes. The catalytic converter cuts down on lots of noise all by itself. There is a company which advertises a system for '81s on ebay that uses chambered pipes towards the back end of the system. Everything else stays the same, including the converter. This would be interesting to check out.

Thanks Chris, Ill keep a look-out for any cracking, Im constantly staring at them anyways cause they just look too cool. Do you happen to know anything about the red accents? Do they fade with time?
