At the Z06Fest last september, Wil Cooksey (plant manager) said when asked about C6 HP, He said, we listened to you guys and you will not be disappointed. I wonder who this BGvette gets their info from? So all these top guys are going to look like fools for telling potential customers that there will be a power increase? Why would they put their reps on the line? Sorry...if I believe the plant manager over some rumor monger. Besides Mr. Cooksey showed us pics of his Blk/Blk 01Z06 with the NOS installed! He wanted more power and is a Vette Nut!!

The following is speculation:
Scenario:

The LS2 development team can deliver 430-450HP, but due to limited parts availability and initial build costs, they cannot provide enough engines to meet anticipated C6 demand.

Possible solution:

Make the LS6 (tweeked to get 5-10 more HP) the standard engine for the C6 and rate the LS2 at only 20 mor HP and it a HIGH priced option to reduce demand for the first year. In Year two, make the LS2 standard, and offer the new Z06 / LS7 at 500HP.

Reminder:
Many of us have clammered for three years to make the LS6 available in the Coupe and vert, so the marketing perception is one of "providing the customers with what they wanted."

I wouldn't be surprised if they introduce the C6 with the LS1 engine. It makes economic sense for GM. During the first year they will sell as many C6's as they can build, no matter what the engine is, just because the car is new. This would allow them to test the new engine for one more year, and gear up to build it.

They did it on the 82/84 model swap, so it could be done again.

I have to disagree. After '04 the LS1 is deffinately dead - as a vette engine. The big difference here (vs '82/84) is that...
1. we (the corvette customers) have been promised more than 400HP by GM on several occasions. Because of this, maintaining the status quo would give the appearance of corporate capability failure - failure to deliver on a commitment to the customers.
2. in '84 there was no higher performance (LS6) to draw upon. They were forced to use the only power plant available - read McClellan's book.

Well on the other Hand if Cadillac can get there 500HP LS2 why can't Corvette?

The vette BETTER get the 500 HP (you mean LS7, right?) long before the Cad does!!! I know there was a blurb out there that the CTS-V would EVENTUALLY get the 500hp - assume LS7, but introducing it in the Cad and putting it in the Z06 later would be a major marketing and customer relations mistake.

Any Corvette sharing MUST work down stream from vette products!!

the c6 will have more power.I mean it MUST get more power. In this day and age changing the model and keeping the same base engine is ridiculous.I'd buy one if it came with the LS6...heck I've been waiting to see it in a convertble for years now...that's if they offer the convertible in the first year.I hope they don't pull the same stunt they did in '97.Anyone here know why they didn't produce any convertibles back in '97 ?

The only thing that I ever read inferred that the vert was intentially withheld to concentrate on maximizing the first year quality of the coupe. There were certainly PR benefits (more months of vettes on the rag covers) to "stringing out" the release of the vert.

Whatever the reason, statements have been made (Hill?) that the C6 vert will follow about 6 months after the Targa's release.

More power?.....It better have it.Did anyone read up on the Ford project?Ford will bring back the GT40.It will compete with Ferrari's 360.That my friends is a sign of things to come...I hope anyway. If Ford manages to get close (let alone beat) the 360 GM will look bad and they will have to come up with something.Dodge will have their supercar(Viper) and Ford will have their supercar(GT 40).......I think they will bring back their Z06 to compete with them.
