did the 82 vette have a regular sized spare in that hidden compartment up under the rear end or did they have temporary tires back then ( i was only 10 in 82 so it didnt matter to me)

either way what size was it and where can i get one

The 82 has a regular spare in the tire carrier under the gas tank. It is not as wide as the rest of the tires on the car, but is not a mini spare. Something around a 225/50/15 size. Any radial tire will do for this purpose, but you need a wheel with the correct bolt pattern for the Vette.

i have yet to see a single catalog that lists a wheel for the spare.....i'll keep digging

My 81 has a space-saver spare as well..

I just sold my entire OEM setup to another member here. My full size spare was a 205x70x15...I think. Maaaay have even been a 195x70x15. I'm positive it was a 70-series.
It was definitely the original factory tire though. If you want a pic of what I had, I can post it.

My 1982 has a temporary tire, but i couldn't tell you if it was original (sure looks old).

I wasn't even born yet in 1982.

I was just wondering the same thing about the spare tire size. Right now I have nothing back there and I too need to find something if for nothing more than weight. I am waiting for the build sheet to arrive, will the info be on there?

I was hoping I could get some info from the picture to figure out what size it might be. I sure wasn't going to buy it for $250.

yea me neither, ill take my chances for now until i can find one cheaper.... but so far no luck on there or craigslist

I stand corrected from my earlier post. The tire is a 195 x 80 x 15. This was part of the complete assembly that I sold to Bwmurph a couple months back. (That thread)

My 81 has a BFG 225-70X15 on an aluminum wheel like on the rest of the car, so they will fit under there. . .

what like a regular aluminum rally wheel? and that fits under neath

Yes, that is the one. I don't know if it was modified or not, but that's what is there, just like the ones on Oceangal's car (in her avatar)

The real thing

This is definitly "The Real Deal" if you are going NCRS. If not . . . find a basic rim with the right bolt patern, and put as small a tire as you can find on it. The spare bucket doesn't have much ground clearance to begin with, even if you could fit a Rally Wheel in there it would be dragging on the ground. Any spare will get you home!

found an original equipment temp spare from an 82 on craigslist for $50.00 15 minutes from my house........no dry rot or anything
