spare tire lock

anyone have info on the lock that holds the spare tire up? locksmith could get the old one off but wasnt useable. cant make the inards turn. the bolt and hanger are fine, just need the lock and keys.

I just bought a 2005 Chevy pickup; the dealer advised not to get the spare tire lock as they are nothing but trouble.

It's keyed the same as your doors-- the rounded key. And even though it's covered in it's own little lock condom, water and dirt invariably trash it after all these years. I'm sure you can find a replacement at any of the Corvette supply businesses.

Most C-3'rs seem to take one of two approaches - - leave the lock off . . .or take the whole spare tire carrier out and stick it in the back of the garage since it looks funky anyway.

My '81 is not keyed the same as the door locks. Could be your problem. Earlier C3's may have been. I never had the spare off my '72. Now I have my lock and shroud coated in Cosmoline (gun grease). Totally waterproof and non corrosive. If you ever get it off try this.
