Spark Plug / Timing ?'s

Well, my wires are definitley touching metal. I'll go out an buy the same type of plugs. Maybe get to it this weekend.

Is your still running good? No more ping? Smooth exceleration?

Jim

Well, it's still running good after 30 miles. I drove it to work today and it sounds pretty good. I'm not sure if your crossfire uses the same plugs as mine. That delco number that I gave you is right out of the book for my car.

Just make sure your wires aren't touching the exhust system at all. That'll ruin the plastic protecting them, perhaps allowing them to arc. Plus, extreme heat could affect the resitance of the wires as well.

It seems like you've replaced a lot on your motor trying to fix this problem. Remember the basics: compression, spark and fuel/air. Are you sure your rocker arms and valve lash are adjusted properly?

I checked my specs. My gapping and timing is the same as yours. Thats great that you got your car running good. I hope the same helps me.

Thanks again for your updates. I really appreciate it.

Jim, one other thing, make sure you're alternator is good along with all of the connections. I was getting a slightly low voltage as well, ~9-10 volts. I repaired all of the wire connectors at the alternator and now it's reading 12-13 volts. I'm sure low voltage could cause some issues too.

Well, the new spark plugs are in and the car is running fine. I removed all of the plugs/wires and distributor cap, cleaned, and put back together. I'm not sure if the solution was in the new plugs, the new plug gap, or better routing of the wires. In any case, it works.

I also put the timing at 6debrees BTDC. I figure that, since the ECM was built to have the base timing at 6, I might as well put it there. Regardless of what I set the base at, the computer puts the idle at the same amount of advance.

propley would'd hurt to check the advance weights to make sure they aren't sticking, also wouldn't hurt to remove, clean, and lube em before reinstalling.
