Spark Plugs Revisited

Oh Boy oh Boy.... my wires came today!!! Accel 8.8 300+ Race Wire. They are custom fit for BBC. Black with Yellow lettering. They smell fantastic... it's almost like being in a tire store.

How sad that I am smelling my new plug wires ehh? I won't have time to put em on until tomorrow. It's snowing anyway.

Hib, I respect your opinions, but you may wish to review some of the testing done to Bosch Plus 4 plugs. Check out the FAQ section at this site. http://www.boschusa.com/AutoParts/SparkPlugs/PlatinumPlus4/
I don't believe it is all just hype.

Curtis, It's ALL hype! Just like those overhaul in a can and magic tune ups in a can. Remember, if they're that good, can name a winning race team or even one maufacturer that uses them?

OK ken, Here's just one of the last 16 winners of the Indianapolis 500 that all ran Bosch high tech spark plugs. Buddy Rice. May 31, 2004 WINNER Indianapolis 500. Can you see the Bosch name at the bottom of the car under the torch?

Also I did not endorse those other things you mention, I only am trying to point out there is better spark plug technology out there than what was available only a few short years ago. These are tested products and they do make a difference. Plus there is a satisfaction guarantee.... if they don't benefit you, just send em back and get your money back. I seriously doubt you could do that with an already installed AC45RTS.

Ken,

Even though you're right, you're wasting your time. The power of advertising far outways the power of rational thought and common sense. If not, there wouldn't be $6.00 bottles of imported mineral water from Fiji on the supemarket shelves.

But it MUST be good, I saw somebody famous drinking it.:L

This is kinda off topic but I agree with the too many electrodes deal.Ok with that being said, I hade multiple electrode plugs that were new in my jap bike I replaced them with single electrode Champions because im cheap lol! And for the first time in my 10 years of owning that bike it runs better than it ever has! And being curious I pulled them out to have a look see after a summer of riding and they still looked nice and tan with no deposits. The multi electrode plugs would have heavy deposits on one side the shell or the other electrodes.Im with Hib on the plug desighn deal, too much of a good thing aint good.P.S. Thats just my isolated incedent its not gospel! lol!

Gottal love the "comparisons", where someone replaces their old, used plugs with new super-whizbang unobtanium-plated multi-electrode nuclear-irradiated plugs and notices the idle speed went up, so they must be better than the ones that were in there before. DUHH! Same thing would happen if you replaced the old plugs with NEW $1.00 Champions; the marketing guys for the whizbang plugs just LOVE that kind of feedback to use as "unsolicited testimonials" for their "miracle" product. If they didn't spend so much money marketing "miracle" spark plugs, they'd cost about half what they get for them today.

"Marketing, son, marketing - that's where the REAL money is...." ;LOL

Well... back to the original issue for a moment... I put on the plug wires and turned her over.... the plugs went in over the weekend. She fired right up (but she always did that), so at least I know everything is installed OK. I have to wait for the snow to melt and rain to come and wash away all the salt before I find out if there is a difference in drivability. I doubt there will be much difference. I mainly did the plugs and wires for 2 reasons: 1) I did not know when the last plug/wire change was done, and 2) I wanted to make sure I was getting the most out of my new HEI distributor with manual tach drive (changed out for an old Accel HEI unit without the tach drive). So Now I have a full tune-up complete! I'll post back once I get her on the road for a test drive.

That just MIGHT have something to do with the $500,000 check Bosch wrote the team (and many other teams, AND the engine manufacturers) to be an associate sponsor; all it means is that Bosch out-bid Champion, Autolite, Denso, and the others to put their sticker on the car (those checks come out of the Marketing budget, by the way).
