Hi,

My Vette is almost ready to come home from the paint shop. I'll be putting in the interior. While I have the carpet out I would like to replace my stock speakers. Now Eckler's and Mid America have replacement speakers that are 100 watts. My question is are all 4x6 and 6x9 the same dimension? If so I could get replacement speakers here locally for less money but I don’t know if they will fit without modification. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

Doug

I just removed two 10 year old Pioneer 6 x 9s and replaced them with two Boston Acoustic 6 x 9s...They were exacly the same...except for the hight. BTW they sound great FX93 I got them for 108.00 including shipping

I could not find any good speakers that fit right.

I replaced my 23 year old stock speakers with:

rear Infinity 6X9
dash Pioneer 4X6 (the only 4X6 that seemed to fit right)

Thanks everyone, I'm going to check out the infinity speakers for the rear and I was looking at the 4x6 pioneers.

With your search check out Boston Acoustic and JL Audio. You won't be dissapointed with either!!!

I got my front 4 x 6 Infinity thru Crutchfield, but the 6x9 Infinity wouldn't fit because of the mounting depth. Had to go with Pioneer 6 x 9 in the back. I've always had good luck with Crutchfield. My .02 worth.

Replacement Speakers

Stick with car audio people for the speakers. I too have had good luck with Crutchfield, but there are a lot of good car audio shops out there and you should cultivate a relationship with one of them.

I have used Polk for simple replacements of stock speakers and have found them to be excellent(Crutchfield's initial recomendation).

I have Pioneer 4X6's in the front dash, and a set of Sony 4X6's in the front kick panels, and a set of Fosgate 6X9's in the rear. The Fosgates required custom mounting because of the size of the magnet on them. The 4X6's all fit right in.

I installed a set of Sony eXplode speakers in front and rear just in time for the cruisefest. Not bad for the price, and the sound is as good as I will ever get with my factory stereo w/ CB combo.

Pioneer "slimline" speakers fit perfectly and sound great for mids and highs. You can replace them all at Wal-mart for under $100.00. Just make sure the 6x9's don't have a raised tweeter. It shuold be flush with the edge, or you will need a spacer to use the factory grills.

One thing about the Pioneer 4x6's is that they only handle 20 watts RMS. I bought Blaupunkt 4x6's for the dash in my 84 and they sound awesome and handle 35 watts rms.
