speedo gear...

Is there some way to tell what speedo gear i have before i tear into the speedo at the transmission?



Thers like eight different teeth sizes?

I don't remember for sure - it has been a little while, but I think they are color coded. If you can unhook the speedo cable from tranny, remove the "carrier" and shine a flashlight (you might need a small mirror) to see what color it is. Then give your friendly local Chevrolet Service Department a call, and they should be able to let you know.

there are probably websites also that have the color meanings. I replaced the gear in my old 3 speed Chevy truck once to try and get the speedo right after replacing rear end gearing.

You don't have to look inside the transmission - the color-coded speedo driven gear is in the adapter you remove from the side of the transmission after disconnecting the cable. Try this:
