I need to get my speedometor/tachometer cluster removed for a 69. If I just drop the the bolts holding the steering column in, will that give me the clearance to remove the cluster?

Thanks

Removing the column bolts will give you the clearance to pull out the cluster (removing the steering wheel off the column too.. if I remember correctly). If you still have all your steering column covers... go ahead and remove those as well before you loosen the column bolts. They are all inner connected and eventually connect to the dash. You still may have to apply some downward pressure on the column for the dash cluster to slip past. If you don't have a wire diagram, be sure to mark where all the lamps go behind the cluster.

You will have to perform what I call "Corvette Yoga" to get under there and look at everything. Also, dont forget to disconnect that your headlight and ignition switch connectors (headlight vacuum lines too). Leaning the dash out a little will give you enough access to disconnect them. If you car is like mine, there isn't a lot of extra wire length to those two switches.

That should get it for you. Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I will give it a try tonight
