Speedometer Markings

I read in a book, that the Speedometer on certain years only goes up to 85 M.P.H.. Can anyone tell me what year this started and what year this ended?

The speedometer in the 80 thruu 82 was a 85mph deal. A replacement from ZIP products list that a 78 thru 82 can be purchased to convert your 85mph to a 140mph. I've not seen a 85 in an earlier than '80 but maybe it was in some. The 79 I had was 140mph. Hope this helps, Fred
