The back space on the wheels has to be 3 1/2 in. or less to fit without a spacer. I have had them, the spacers, but don't like to use them. You have to have either longer bolts or wheel nut to make them work. Either way you are adding a weak link into the picture.
Ok gary your saying I don't need a spacer if i go with the right back space which I would perfer like you I would like to stay away from them, but the crager people say I must use them
I have found that many wheel makers don't make wheel with the right back space to fit older corvettes any more; so to get them on they tell you to use soacers. If you have a local dealer go down and check the back spacing on the wheel. Then ask if you can try one on the car. Check both front and rear for fit before buying.
The spacer idea came out when disc brake first came out and the only way to clear the calibers was to use spacers. Now that everything uses disc it not a problem. But the new market is in front wheel drive rice burners and that is where the makers are biulding for. So it is getting harder to find a proper fitting new wheels for the older vettes now. I have run Centerlines mostly in the past, but I have decided to stay with my stock rally wheel for now.
To sum it up if the wheel has the proper back space and diamiter there should be no need for spacers.
