Low voltage overheats the armature and they die from inside. Caused by a hard starting engine from continuous prolonged cranking, or, the charging system is not in good condition necessary to keep the battery at a high charge.
Frequently caused by low voltage as a result of high resistance in the cables and connections, especially on C3's with side-terminal batteries, poor connection of the ground cable to the frame, and the long positive cable corroded inside the insulating jacket and at the terminal ends. All of those connections MUST be clean and shiny. C3's are FAMOUS for bad connections and cables.
