73 had a problem with the starter clicking then starting, sent it to the local generator shop, re-built starter but it started doing the same, when the motor is hot it doesnt click, when cold starting it clicks then starts . what's up with that.

I see where you are going JohnZ, I agree if headers it is a heat problem. On my 64 with headers I went to a mini high torque started and never have heat related starter problems.

no headers, but you think it's a heat
problem

Also commonly caused by deteriorated terminals on the battery cables and dirty/corroded connections, which introduce high resistance/major voltage drop during cranking. Make sure both ends of both cables are clean and shiny where they connect, and they're not corroded where the cables join the terminal ends.

Also check all connections in the purple wire circuit from the ignition switch to the solenoid - including the clutch safety switch on a 4-speed and the neutral safety switch on an automatic; you need full voltage at the "S" terminal to pull in the solenoid plunger.

i will check it out thanks

Try buying a brand new starer. My dads GMC pick up did the same, we replaced it, and now it starts up fine.
Hope this helps

solved problem with starter after taking in everybodies advice, cleaned all battery terminals + grounds / sent starter out for a re-build @ our local shop /changed fuseable link @ starter / now the 73 vette startes 1st time every time hot or cold.
