starting and radio problem

Does anyone know what amperage alternator is in a 1985 coupe? I just bought one and it has been kind of slow starting, but I also have a horrible whine in the radio that increases with the RPM. I just replaced the plugs and wires thinking they may be inducing the noise in the radio.

Is it better to replace the entire alternator or could I possibly just have a set of blown diodes. I've reasoned that this could cause the alternator to drain the battery when the engine is not running, as well as allow RF leakage that could induce DC current in the amplifier driving the radio.

Hope I haven't been too confusing in my questions.

Thanks for any help in advance:Steer

My 85 is a Z-51 and it calls for a 120 amp alternator...

First thing to look at is the alternator.

Second: Make sure your antenna cable does not have water in it or has it been rubbing against anything.
