Its about time to take the 64 in for its Safety Inspection. Today while checking to see that everything works, I notice the front park lights do not come on when the headlights are on. They do however come on when the headlight switch is set to the 1/2 out position. Is this correct ?

Decided to take a chance and bring it in anyway today since I took a vacation day. The place I have been using for my previous (later model) vettes is a Texaco Lube Center. They have always inspected my vettes outside due to clearance concerns with their racks. This time though (different dude) he insisted on having it driven inside. I told him "no way it would not clear", and he held his ground.... had to come in for him to inspect. So I just got back in the car and drove off. Not only did he lose my business, but the guy in a fairly new Porche Boxter that was waiting behind me (for an inspection) left too :-)

Yes, it's right. When I first got my car, I thought that it was a bad electical connection, but the mid years were wired that way. When the headlights are on I guess GM didn't think the parking lights needed to be on, or weren't required to be. I know you can wire it to have BOTH on thought.

I remember reading about this in another post not too long ago, and some guy was carrying around some type of written documentation in case it was ever questioned, I guess for police/inspection purposes.

Thanks MC,

You guys dug out from the storm last week ? I know you don't want to hear this, but the last two weekends have been in the 60 to 70 degree range here in Houston and I've really enjoyed cruizing around with the top down :-)

The shop probably just got busted by the DPS and was probably being overly cautious. In Texas the inspection station can by law only perform the inspection in one particular bay in any given shop. It is a silly-assed law, but they do enforce it by sitting across from shops and watching where they inspect cars at!
I had a friend who was cited for exactly the same thing.
I now just license my cars as antiques and never have to have them inspected again!

Me too, although in Missouri it's a historic license plate. Also helps a lot on the insurance!

Ron,
In Texas you can use the year of manufacture tags from that state for classic or Antique registration. The difference in the two registration is that the antique is not subject to inspection and is not supposed to be driven except to shows, parades, and club events. Seems like I am allways on my way to a show every weekend! LOL

Yeah, I really feel sorry for you guys down south, it must be tought with 60-70 degree weather.:mad during the winter. My vette will be in the garage cocoon until spring.

Why am I living in this state?

:( ,Mc

Well, now it does get pretty cold down here as well. As a matter of fact, I saw a little frost on the roof when I woke up this morning, but it will be warm enough to put the top down later this afternoon! LOL

Took the 64 to a station next door to the lube joint on Saturday. Low and behold, the guy who has been inspecting my Vettes at the lube place had jumped ship and was working at this station. He immediately recognized me when he got in, looked at the 64 inspected it where it sat (outside), then slapped the sticker on the windshield..... and told me " see ya next year" !!
