I HAD TO CALL THE SHOP FOREMAN ASK HIM IF HE HAD THE CERTAIN SCANNING TOOLS NEEDED TO DO THIS AND INSTRUCT HIM OF THE BASIC PROCEDURE. HE SAID OH YEA WE COULD DO THAT. THESE GUYS DONT CALL NEVER FOLLOW UP AND YOU CANNOT GET THEM ON THE PHONE. I WONDER IF A BILL HEARD FAMILY MEMEBER RELIZES JUST HOW THIS DEALERSHIP IS RUN I AM SOOOOOO PIZZZZZZZZZZZZED

I know exactly what you're feeling. So many auto repair places flat out lie and have this attitude that it's o.k. to let your car sit there until they decide to get around to doing the work. The worst thing is when the car has sat there for awhile, and then they call you to say that they aren't able to help and haven't even touched it!! I've said it before, but what really is needed is an Ebay or Wal-Mart of auto repair!! For some reason lots of us seem to have this reluctance to ask when the car will be ready or require them to meet the time they have said the car will be ready---I think we are concerned that we will somehow offend them and they will take it out on the car! Here's a couple of suggestions: First, you need to get over the hesitation to ask when the car will be ready and follow-up to see that it IS done by that time. Try it a few times and you will get over the reluctance and be much happier. Second, do you have a wife or female friend who can help you go to bat at the dealership? I know this sounds funny, but the quickest way to get action out of most guys is to have a woman get angry at them or insistent! It's weird, but it works. When the woman gets angry, the guy will probably call the shop and say "Charlie, get to that Corvette now as I've got this lady really angry at me and making a scene".

That's the problem with vettes. Dealers usually have only one mechanic who knows about vettes. I don't know how far you are from Conyers Kryptonite and the shop I use may not be a dealer but the owner and his lead mechanic are vette certified and not only do they communicate with me, but after close to 14 years using him he hasn't failed me yet. Best of all is the owner is as honest as the day is long and although his lead tech can be a bit "testy" at times, when his head is under your hood you can sleep well knowing it's in great hands.

Dealers

I know where you are coming from. I have had my Vette at a well known dealership over the last 3 months for work I could not do due to time constrants. They kept in touch now and then but kept the Vette way to long ( 45 days not counting the weekends )to change out intake manifold and valve cover gaskets, fuel pump and filter,8 fuel injectors and 8 spark plugs ,and distrubitor cap and flush out the gas tank) They weren't going to even offer a loaner car. I told them I wasn't happy having to beg, borrow and steal a ride to work (swing shift) and being put off with approximate dates the vette would be ready! After hearing an ear full from me the Service Manager cut a $ 1,000.00 Dollars off my bill to compensate me for their Slack of Service and Warrented the work for 12 months or 12,000 miles.

You are describing a typical dealership and if there is a dealership that is not as you described, I have yet to find it.

There are a few good independent shops here and there, but they are few and far between. There are quite a few shops, both dealer and independent with some individuals there that know what they're doing. It's the attitude of the overall business that usually makes it what it is for the customer.

I believe that dealership service departments are worse than independent shops because they are run by car dealerships. MOST, not all, car dealerships are owned and operated by aggressive individuals that are forced to run a difficult business with VERY high inventory costs and lots of competition. For this reason, the only ones that survive are a bit calloused to the long term needs of the customer. They are typically dealing with short term problems, like making this months quota in order to keep the lights on.

In addition, the short term thinking forces them to view the service department as a profit center, rather than an opportunity to make customers happy so that they will buy their next car there. To the short term thinking dealership, that persons next car purchase might as well be in another lifetime, it has nothing to do with their problem of making enough money THIS month.

My $0.02,

This thread is everywhere.
You should have run a Google search on the dealer before you dropped off your car? On the other site you mentioned their name and they are famous for customer service:rofl:
I had the honor of going to one of their franchises in Memphis to look at a car that was advertised as new. The price seemed too good so I called and was told that it was a NEW CAR not a demo. So I drove an hour to check it out and it was either demo or theft recovery it had brake fluid all over the engine compartment, bald non factory tires, scratched gnarly paint and smelled like smoke (weed not cigarette).
I told the theif(salesman) that I was leaving however, it took him forever to get me my keys. So I waited in a new ZO6 were I commenced to bust a$$ (that Z06 lost its new car smell);LOL My youngest still talks about sitting in the pretty yellow car while daddy made it smell yucky

Good luck!
