I've messed around alot with mine after I replaced the leaking seals and here is what seemed to work. Torqueing to specs as suggested in the manuals didn't really work for me. First, back of the adjusting shaft in the top of the unit about 3 complete turns. The big plug in the end for the bearing pre load was very loose in the housing, and I ended up using multiple layers of teflon tape to get a good seal. Probably screwed up the torque setting technique. Anyway, on the car, loosen the jam nut, then use a pair of channel lock pliers if you don't have the correct wrench, and snug up the bearing adjuster. Clearences are tight, but you can do it without removing anything. You may have to play with it a few times in order to get the steering right. Then tighten down the adjusting shaft while the wheels are streight ahead. Keep trying to get the play out. Drive the car, then readjust. Good luck.
