Hey guys, 1st post from a newbie here. I'm working on my girlfriends 96LT-1. Trying to remove to the steering column to do some repairs and I'm stuck at the flange on the floorboard. Electrics are unpluged, and the coupler forward of the fire wall is loose. The column is loose, but it looks like the flange at the floor with the two 13mm nuts (nuts are off) is behind the parking brake pedal mounting bracket. Does this bracket have to come off? Is there any thing special to know or do to remove it? Stupid Haynes manual says to undo coupler and pull out.:r.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Curt, the cabinetmaker.

Well, I feel like a total newb moron! I have been laying upside down in the floor to do this. I just went back out to have another look, and realized the park brake is a lever on the logitudinal. I was looking upside down, and thinking backwards. I was looking at the accelarator pedal!:boogie:duh:hb I need more :drink:drink:drink:drink:drink

BTW, it does gotta come off!

Curt if you need help I have a 94 LT1 and I have the full factory service manual. You can PM me and we can talk about it or we can discuss it here. I can see what the REAL manual has to say about it. Seriously, the Haynes is only good for toilet paper. If your going to be doing a lot of work on a Vette or ANY car for that matter, the FSM is the factory gospel, can't go wrong with it.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum, and, oh yeah, keep us posted, we all like to see how others are making out.

Paul, I'm down to the accel pedal. The nuts are off, but it still won't budge. I'm stuck again.

There is a 13mm jam nut in the engine bay where the steering column goes into a coupling (COUPLER). If you turn your steering wheel and keep looking down by exhaust manifold you will see it. AND MARK IT, because when you are done with your repairs, it needs to go back or your wheel will telescope a little.
