Steering Lock Again!

rsimoes said:
Okay, the final result is that the repair will actually cost $530 and they will not cover it under anything.

The failed part was the part that does the actual motion of locking, that has never been involved in the recalls for the 2002 C5, according to them and they have never seen that fail.

They also refused to disable the system.

would you believe that i'm going through this exact scenario right now with a dealer in pensacola. they called me this morning and said that the actuator was bad and it's not covered under the recall. they want $400+ to fix it.

here's the latest. the dealer told me they are not allowed to disable the column lock and i didn't want to pay him $400 to fix the actuator and risk having it fail again sometime. i decided to take it to leo's corvettes who is the local specialist here in pensacola. he said he can install a bypass kit for $275 and i'll never have to deal with the issue again.

the car is there now, and i should be getting it back tomorrow. i'll post an update with the results.

i'm considering making a formal complaint to gm, as the diagnostic work on the column at the dealer cost me $88. all this, after i had the recall service done in virginia last year.:confused

Geez Tom, that sucks, expecially since you already had it supposedly fixed.

See you in Bowling Green, right???

got the car back from leo's in pensacola. they bypassed the column lock for around $275. now, i shouldn't have to be concerned with it anymore.

i totally recommend leo's to anyone in the pensacola area. great shop.:beer
