I have a 1979 Corvette and the steering valve needs to be centered. How do you adjust it?

Jack the car up.

Pop the dust cap off the driver side of the hydraulic ram.

Set jack stands under the front frame to 100% support the car.

Start the engine. You will notice the wheels turn to one side or the other all by themselves.

Turn the nut that you see under that dust cap until you get the wheels to sit straight forward.

They may jerk or jump a little or kind to sit there and have a nervous quake, but as long as they stay straight and don't wonder off right or left, you are doing the best you can.

If you can't get it to center, you may have a faulty hydraulic rod that is not allowing the pressure to balance.

Hope that helps!

All the ones I've centered I've disconnected the ram from the frame mount and that way there is no weight (wheels/tires) on the pull or push of the ram. Just watch the cylinder go in or out and turn your nut to a place where it is not moving but centered between in and out. Fred
