Just bought my Steeroids Rack & Pinion!! Woo Hoo!! :cool Talked to Eric and Randy @ Speed Direct (888-425-2776) about running the rack manually. "No Problem" They made a change to the input shaft support brackets to make them stronger to handle the extra torque required to turn the rack manually. They said the rack would be fine operated manually without the power assist and to leave the shipping plugs in place. Although, I plan on making a bypass / recirc hose to hook up the power assist inlet to the outlet to prevent a vacuum or pressure buildup. Eric also gave me a discount price and sold the rack without the power steering hoses for $913.00 and $35.00 shipping delivered to my door. (If yo want the complete kit it's $983.00 with hoses + shipping) Just mention this forum and that you heard it from me and you will get this price! Man, I'm just StingRayCrazy!!! :crazy

P.S. Check out my web page, It's got a new look!!

Hi,

I had a look at your site, nice engine !!. Where did you buy the electric water pump it looks good, do you have a part number for it and can it be used for limited street work or is it a dragrace only item.

I wanted to buy an electric pump mainly to tidy up my engine but had conflicting reports as wither they could be used on the street.

Cheers
J.

Hello J.

Thanks, it’s a work in progress... You have a very nice site as well and your Vette looks great.

The water pump is a "Hawkes" billet Pro Street. Sorry, I looked the pump over and couldn't find a part number. I bought the Pump on EBay new in the box. (The guy had 10 of them listed)

As far as running electric pumps on the street, I have a couple of buddies that run them with no problems. Just make sure that you get the highest flowing gpm unit you can find and you should be ok.

Hi,

I will have a look around on a couple of searches, did the pump and the electric drive come as a complete unit. I noticed the drive was a Steff.

Cheers
J.

The motor is off of another setup. It has a faster RPM and was stronger. I emailed the guy I bought it from on EBay to see if he had any more. I'll let you know.

Cool site man. That twin turbo project is just awesome. I would give you some substantial thanks if you will give me your motor. Think about it and get back with me.

Thanks, any info would be usefull. I had a look around and there is some nice stuff for sale but they all say for drag race only.

What goes around comes around, the first street car I saw running a 10 second quarter over here in the UK was a big block Camaro with a twin turbo set up on it.

That was more than 15 years ago.

Good luck with you project
J.

Thanks for the complements Cream79L82, but sorry I think I'll keep my motor...

Haha, good luck with it man. You had better hurry up and get done and come back with some video feeds from the drags. I'm anxious to see how you do.

Steeroids

Thanks for your detailed piece about updating your steering. When you did your work did you put the new tie rods in the same "slow" holes on the steering knuckle or did you move them to the "fast" holes that were used for Vettes with power steering?

My '69 BB doesn't have power steering, but it does have all original steering parts that have never been reworked. Needless to say, the steering's a little (lot) sloppy. I'm planning to rework the front and rear ends in the next year. Your piece and the Vette mag. article give me hope that someday my '69 will someday have nimble handling and quick steering.

For now I have them in the outer holes. I'll try’em there first since I want to run the rack manually. The Rack n Pinion only has a couple of turns lock to lock so either way it should be better than the stock steering box. I have the rack installed (And It’s really Nice!!!) but I need to take some pictures and post them to my site. Check back in a week or so. My wife just gave birth to a 6lb baby girl !!! So the Vette’s on the back burner for a while. I'll be back in the garage soon... :crazy
