Steps for Waxing?

I am the proud new owner of a 1999 Torch Red Coupe. Just purchased the Menzerna car care kit which includes Final Polish II, Finishing Touch Glaze and the FMJ "super wax". Given that the exterior is in excellent condition, is it necessary to go through the steps of applying the polish, glaze and then wax? Or can you acheive the "mirror" like shine with just the waxing step.

From what I have read, the polish will remove old wax and remove minor paint defects. The glaze will help acheive the shine. I own a Porter Cable orbital buffer that I will use and am some what skepticle of using a polish and glaze if I do not need to...just do not want to damage the paint I guess!

Any thoughts on this would be welcome.

What I would do is this. Wash the car with Dawn dish detergent. This'll strip off whatever wax is already on the car. Then I would use the kit you recieved.

If you have not clayed the car, this should be the next step to remove contaiments from the surface. If Dawn is used as a lubricant, then wash with clear water to remove the Dawn. If a petroleum based lubricant is used, then Dawn wash again. Dry throughly using a 100% US cotton cloth to pat dry, never rub with water blade or anything else. Use a wet/dry vacuum to get water from tail lights, mirrors, etc.

I agree with hud cap on the clay bar you have to get the old stuff off so you can get a good layer of the new. I would also recommend following the directions that came with your kit. The process might not be needed but it will make the wax and shine last longer.
