OK, now what? I already cracked the bezel :bash
It's not going anywhere..help!

you must have removed the screws from the side panels right and left side . then there are two nuts under the console aprox 1 inch in from the out side edge of the bezel kind of a bear tight working area good luck :hb :r :( :beer :w Steve

re:

that thing always seems to fetch up on something, lucky for me the previous owner decided to yard it out and break off all of the things that were in the way =(. The places to watch out for though are right around the gauges, the metel thing that the gauges sit in likes to catch on the edges of the dash.

hope this helped

I managed to get it out w/o breaking anything else...had to remove the pass. side dash to do it...
Looks like a previous owner messed around back there cause the pass. side speaker is missing (the drivers side is still there, I can see it)...
The trick was to kinda pull the bezel up and out 'cuz there are two bolts sticking out of it down into the center console...lucky for me too that there were no nuts holding those bolts in place...it would have been a PITA to get them out...
Now I'm off to replace the speakers, repair the radio (maybe replace it) and fix my clock..

Also, looks like my radio only had one connection for a speaker hookup...shouldn't have there been two?

Just a thought.....

i just went through this nightmare......if you want good stereo sound , cut the bezel and put in a cd player.it cost alot less than the stereos for 7 or 8 hundred dollars, to replace the bezel and go back to original.it took me a few hours to make the adjustment to the bezel and i made a new face plate at work on a mill from aluminum.painted it flat black and it looks and sounds great! my vette will never be judged by a geek with a clipboard for points anyway. its mine and i want it to be comfortable more that factory original.the driver speaker will only come out with the dash.dont have to remove the driver side panel and gauges , but the moldings around the inside of the windshield need to come out to get it out. its not to hard to do.anyway , good luck , i hope you are happy with the end results as i am.:bu

Actually, now that I think of it...my "stereo" is probably just a "mono"...That would explain why the pass. side speaker isn't there...Is it possible it came from the factory like that?
The more I think, I probably will throw in another nice stereo...My 'vette is a long ways off from being judged at a NCRS meet...so I might as well get some good tunes for now...
Also, Vettedude, did you wire your stereo so you get to keep your presets and clock when you shut off the ignition? Is that tuff to do?

my guess is the front speakers were toast from being 31 yrs old and the prev owner had no clue how to reach the drivers side so it was left.....the stereo you have is probably stereo , but will it sound as good as a new cd player? sell it on e-bay and get the right stuff.its well worth it dude. as for the wiring , it is easy. you need two hot leads from the car....1 is constant for the presets and 1 is going on and off with the ignition. i hooked the on off wire directly to the fuse box....there is a plug for it on the fuse panel...just need to crimp a lead on it....check out under your dash for thspot on the fuse panel.....then you need a constant hot wire.....i tapped into a yellow wire for that.....i think it goes to the cig lighter or something to that effect. this lead doesnt draw too much power as it is only for the presets and the clock.
also i put in pioneer speakers in the dash....they dont fit perfectly but you can get 2 of the 4 holes to line up on the dash studs and the overhang on the others will "pinch " under the nut....you may also want to remove the kick panels and split the wire to bring the same speaker to the floor.let me know if you need any more advise...im no expert but im happy with the work so far.:upthumbs
