NO. It`s for every engine, and done without the engine running and oil splashing all over. If it`s a solid, set the lash at the same position or hydraulic go to zero lash

OK, let me add a little more to the valve adjment. Since I don't know what a 427 valve lash calls for, I will tell you about the 350. I'm going to take a guess it's the same.
Here we go. You found your EOIC position on a valve and will begin the rocker adjustment. Start to turn the rocker nut down, and at the same time, spin the push rod around in a circle, or move it back and forth. Once you feel the "slightest drag" on the push rod and it's hard to spin, stop! Now simply turn the nut one full turn more. You have now set the valve lash on a hydraulic valve.
There is no need to start the engine and have all that excessive "ticking" going on and oil flying around. Remember, when the NASCAR boys are building engines, it's all static adjustments. They don't put the engine in on the dyno and start to make valve adjustments........it's ready to go!
 
Matchframe, iron cross is correct. What you are doing with the EOIC position, is finding the heel of the cam lobe. This positions the lowest point of the cam to make valve lash adjustments to either solids or hydraulics.
 
It is the same proceedure. And "ready to go" We don`t fire up our fuel engines and start adjusting valves. We tow it to the line, fire it up and press on the gas.

Believe it or not the loud knock was a rocker arm out of adjustment. We changed the oil & made all of the adjustments and the noise disappeared. The engine sounds better than when we first bought the car. I wish all problems were that easy to fix.

Just wanted to thank everyone that responded with suggestions.
 
im very happy for you, like i said i too had the same thing happen, it is extremely scary sound! i took the oppurtunuty to put the new roller tip rockers on

I'm glad it was that simple and cheap. I know all too well the heartaches of "noises" coming from your engine. I'd guess now you'll keep a close eye on everything for a while to make sure everything stays in adjustment.:beer
