Hi to everybody.:D I'm new to this forum and new to the C5 world. I bought my first Vette a few weeks ago and now have 1100 miles on it. However, I still experience some of the smell that comes from getting a new engine hot and burning off some of the original material that might cause a smell. Like maybe some preservative coating??? I'm not really sure if this is a normal thing or not. Levels check good and there are no high temp indications. The maniold smokes a bit when I stop and open the hood. Any thoughts from the more experienced?
Thanks

Probably nothing to worry about, but it bears watching. You may have a small leak somewhere. What you are seeing should stop soon I would think unless there is leak.

Thanks Dale. I took care to make sure the garage floor was clean when I put it in tonight. I will monitor the floor for small leaks.

My 03 stunk for a while when it was new also. It went away - can't remember how long it took though.

I have an '01 coupe with less than 12k miles on it and sometimes it still has a kind of tar/asphalt smell inside.

DDSVETT,

If there is a small oil leak on the lower side of the valve cover(s) you may never see the evidence on the garage floor. Try and tape something absorbent on the lower side of the covers and see if any trace of oil is present.
