I have a 1982 corvette. I bought a Jet Power Chip recently. I removed the battery and removed the little metal door that is located on the side of the ECM facing the battery. This is behind the drivers seat. I removed the stock chip that was seated in a green plastic template. I placed Jet chip in this green template, installed it in the socket on the ECM, put the plate back on the ECM and connected the battery back up.
I started the engine and the check engine light immediately went on. The idle is at 15k and it won't level off to the normal idling rpm. I am thinking of maybe I should of left well enough alone and stayed with the stock chip that was already running well.
My question is: I want to re-install the custom chip. I forgot the orientation of how it was installed. I should have taken notes !! It is installed first into a green template that guides it into the socket. I thought maybe that this green template was keyed so that the chip would be installed only in one direction but it seems I can install the chip in either direction in this green template. I am not sure though which way it should be inserted.
There is a notch on one end of the chip and a round dot on the other end.
When installed properly, which identifier is closet to the drivers door. Is it the notch or do I turn it around and have the circle closet to the drivers door.
Even the Jet instructions do not have any installations instructions. If I install it backwards, do I blow the chip. May that's what happened to the Jet chip ?
Thanks for your help.
