Now that I reflect.... big blocks ended in '74, but my questions still stand...
I'm in need of a new/reman diff. Per CAC's model center, the stock rear gear on the `74 454 3 speed Auto was 2.73. When I pulled my diff and spun the input shaft, it took just over 3 revolutions for the yolks to spin once. This makes me think that either:
A) There was an optional 3.08 gear
or
B) The gear in my car is not original
BUT:
The date stamp on the main gear is 12/73... which makes me think more of the optional gear. Can anyone tell me which is the case?
I assume if I want to keep the same performace, I should replace this diff with one that has a 3.08 in it (which is available through most reman distributors).
Thanks!
Dave
