Picked up a 99 C5 a few weeks ago and last night was the first time I drove it at night. I noticed that half the button lights on the radio are out. ie 1, 2, 4 and 5 of the station presets are lit but 3, 6 and the EJECT, AM/FM, AUX are unlit. Anyone run across this before and is it easily fixable?

Thanks

Yes, they can be replaced. I have replaced the lights in the HVAC unit which are soldered in. I have not replaced the ones in the radio. There are vendors that can do it. Normally they upgrade to LEDs which I don't care for.

The ones for the HVAC unit are Radio Shack 272-1092. I would think they would work. If you can do simple soldering you can open it up and compare the OEM ones to these. The color and brightness should be an equal.

Thanks for the reply...Just seems odd that that there are 8 buttons (2 rows of 4 each) and the 4 on the left are working, but the right 4 are not. Have done a few searches over the past hour and really haven't found much. Just seems that random lights would be out rather than half the bank of lights on one side of the button panel. Coincidence? I guess that is possible..Appreciate the reply, Dadaroo.

I paid no attention to what lights were out. Sounds like more than just several bulbs being burned out.

Otter, if you are comfortable opening it up, open it and have a look.
The problem may be more obvious once it's open.

Thanks, its really a minor annoyance, will probably check it out when I install an iPod adapter in the coming months.

If you have never removed the radio here is a good link to use. It is for going into the IPC but you can just stop once you get the bezel around the radio removed. Removing the connectors is a PITA because you can't fully pull out the radio for access to the back of it. Just don't pull on the wires, just the connectors. They each have a release latch so make sure that is depressed before you start struggling to remove each connector. The antenna has no release, you may need to twist it to get it loose. I used small pliers for the antenna.

PS: Disregard the link title, it is wrong.
