Please share your favorite Callaway tale you have had with your car(s)...

I know that everyone who stayed at the "Callaway hotel" at Carlisle (who woke up on time - hehe, Magic Dragon slept in too long:nono ) will say that the to and from trips were some of the best there could be had :upthumbs
But what have you got, personally, that you want to share - Thanks *89x2* Chris

Ray's SMILE

The look on Ray's face when we Buzzed the C12 at 130+mph.WHAT A SIGHT A train of twin turbos in every color on a HIGH SPEED RUN on the way to Carlise what a beautiful Sunday morning that was.

One of my favorite moments with a Callaway Corvette was, while driving (err, trailering) the B2K home after purchase, our daughter (the just turned two) was keeping track of all that was happening on the non-stop 40+ hour round trip... Somewhere around Ohio, she blurts out her first "adult" word... DADDY, she says... "You red CorBette is following us" ;) It definately put a smile on my face:)
In addition to that, she also jammed her car seat "buckle" with a few pennies at a truck stop (leatherman tool to the rescue to undo the jam) and had her first episode of "car sick" somewhere around hour #4 :o

What a way to kick off Callaway ownership :v

Actually my favorite moment was on the drive home from Carlisle last year.

I stopped to fill up the tank somewhere off I-95 in South Carolina sometime after midnight. This guy in a van pulled up and filled up on the other island, looking at the car the whole time. :eek

Then got back in his van and took off.... only the hose was still on the van. So he ripped the hose/nozzle right off the pump! :Silly

Then stopped and left it on the floor next to the pump.

Good thing for him the station was not manned, though I'm sure his credit card was the last one run on the pump. And it had an auto-shut off because only a small amount of fuel spilled.

I was ;LOL and quite pleased there was no fire or explosion!

:cool

Believe it or not my favorite moment came when I let someone else drive it. He was rodding it up pretty good and I noticed he kept looking in the mirror. He said someone was trying to catch us but wasn't having any luck. We had to stop at a light and this pure rice Integra pulls up quickly and the guy is practically busting a gut leaning over to roll down his passenger window. When he got it down he yelled out to my buddy "IS THAT A CALLAWAY?" with a huge grin on his face. My friend merely nodded yes and took off with the grin light. I could see the guy give us a thumbs up right as we took off.

The fact that this ricer not only knew what a Callaway is but also appreciated it was pretty cool. The fact that he could spot my car as a Callaway is about as far-fetched as can be. Lots of vette owners wouldn't be able to id the car, even with the hood scoops. That guy made my day...

Supernatural Stories

With our Supernatural, the best so far was the last 100 yards of my recent trip to CT w/ my bride :) As we pulled up to the Callaway factory with grins on our faces (o.k. I had a grin and my wife was enduring ;) ) It was a neat feeling to arrive at the place where the Callaways are born:upthumbs

Worst story in the SNAT was during the same trip... The Throttle plates were sticking causing a nasty "stuck TB at 2500 rpm's - nothing a "blip" of the throttle wouldn't cure BUT... on the GSP, the roadway was "closed" for 16 miles - bumper to bumper blipipng throttle w/ the center exit exhaust :D 1st gear, 2nd... Back to 1st gear then 2nd - 16 miles of this :(
Joanne sent me a new Throttle body the next day - cured SNAT:)
Thanks Joanne - you are AWESOME!!!!

I"ve probably driven my Vette to Callaway's shop at least 6 or more times for various work over the past several years. For some reason, like Chris, I just enjoy that last mile or two off the highway just before you get to the shop - and then you see the Callaway facility, with Reeves sitting in the corner office. I get a little grin on my face.

Every so often I get a thumbs-up on the highway or a nice comment at a car show, but nothing that sticks-out in particular, other than this.....

One time, while sitting in traffic on the Garden State Parkway (NJ), a guy driving a beat-up old Buick LeSabre pulls up next to me and asks "Is that a real Callaway?", I just say, "Yes". He asks "How much horsepower?" I reply "about 450"..... he pauses for a few seconds and says "You da man!" That's the only comment I really remember. It was just funny the way he said it....made us both laugh.

True,Honest!

We have a Callaway Holiday Party each year at our home with the Callaway staff.Reeves used to attend before he moved from CT.(His brother lives close by)When the C12 was about to be released a few years back,we(Several Callaway owners,Reeves Zoner & staff) spent the evening trying to come up with a name for the C12(Reeves likes off beat names to describe his creations)and also to pick from 4 wheel samples the one that would appear on the prototype.Result? No name & Reeves vetoed our wheel choice!
I also have a great picture of Reeves at our dinning room table signing the final papers for the C12!That one is a keeper!!
Strange but very true.

A friend of mine has just bought a new Ferrari 360 Modena. He's driven my car and really rates it.

Anyway he came round the other day complete with new sports exhaust (OK I have to admit the old 360 did sound good) so we could have a race, er I mean comparison officer!

Take it from me, the 360 driver, and an independant witness, that my old Callaway keeps up with a new Ferrari 360 up to 150mph (that's all we got up to but I have no doubts about a Twin Turbo's ability above that speed - I'd imagine it would kill almost anything). I got the impression my car didn't even break into a sweat.

Couple of points: A European 360 might be slightly quicker than a US version due to emmissions considerations. This one should especially be quicker as it has no cats (naughty) and a $3000 sports exhaust.

My car has no cats also so it may be a bit quicker than a stocker (runs about 55/56 hg boost).

If I could hear what my car was doing over the Ferrari's 8500 unsilenced rpm maybe I could have been even quicker - couldn't hear my car at all, didn't want to look at gauges at those speeds!Maybe Callaway should have put the boost gauge high up on the dash?

The other day I went to the pub where a lot of car folks meet every Wednesday. One guy came up to me and said "I hear you've got another Corvette?"

I said yes but this one's got a couple of turbos.

His look said "Yeah right" until I opened the hood. Then he said "Oh ,my god you aint joking!" Lots of people think I'm winding them up when I mention the turbos. After that the car got plenty of attention.

I think at first people think it's just a hot rod until they see the intercoolers with "Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette" on 'em. I see a lot of confused/ impressed looks when I leave the hood open!

Guys - Those are some great stories indeed :m

Malc, I suspect that many people couldn't believe what they saw one you propped up the hood :D

Tony - Neat stuff on the C12 and development - sounds like a really nice time :upthumbs

Keep them coming:v

my favorite

i was driving home with my wife from our favorite pizza restaurant. we were on a highway (doing 55) with a nice straight away coming up. naturally i got the urge the to punch my 91 callaway convertable (top up, windows down) just a bit. well, we were at 100 in no time. suddenly pizza slices were floating by in mid air. i had forgotten about the leftover white clam and bacon pizza on the convertable's deck lid behind us. for weeks i was still finding bits of clams and bacon, very hard and stale pieces.

Probably the best thing Ive done is attend local shows. I prop the hood and people come running :D

But the best was after the show at the theme park I work at...All the Vettes were leaving heading down the 4 lane highway. We were in some traffic and a guy in a C5 pulls up next to me real fast. He looked over and smiled. I fell back about a car or so and put in it third and spooled up the turbos and shot past him. He had no idea my car was a b2k....he came flying back up to me I lip read the words "WTF!!!!" then he got a big smile on his face and gave me a thumbs up. :D

I remember making a certain friend sick while riding in my car...too many 0-110/120mph bursts :D
