I'm getting a strange fluid leak from the bottom of the bell housing / inspection plate.

I keep an aluminum catch tray under the engine comparment to catch fluids.

I have a very small known oil leak at the front of the oil pan (color dark brown), a small oil weep from the back of the transmission (color red), and a clearish-amber fluid comming from the bottom of the bell housing / inspection plate.

I have no idea what that fluid is. Now, heres the weird part. When you look at the fluid at just the right angle for the light to hit it. . .is green (like anti-freeze green) when on the aluminum pan. When you stand right above it. . .it's clear. When you wipe it up with a clean white rag. . .it's cleaish-amber.

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS STUFF!?!?!

Are their any water jackets that go near the main seal? could it be anti-freeze mixing with oil. . .and leaking down the back of the block. . .etc?

One final note, my master cylinder went bad about a week ago. Break fluid was comming out of the top of the cylinder. . .and coating the entire master cylinder housing. . .and I also had a leak out the back of the cylinder that was running down the firewall. It is clear. . .and when mixed with rusty elements turns amberish. But how in the heck would the break fluid get all the way over to the bell housing / inspecition plate. . .without leaving a trail. . .

These are the things that perplex me.

Any knowledge would be great.

Looks like you have to find the starting point of the leak. sounds like it's coolant and it's traveling from point A to point B picking up grease on the way and melting it down.

Minor leaks from the water passage at the rear of the intake manifold tend to show up where you describe. Do you notice any drips hanging from the starter?
Feel around at the back of the intake/head area.

Not sure if there are freeze plugs at the rear of the block on that engine. If so, that's a possibility.

Ok thanks for the input. . .I'll take a look.

Hey . . . does anyone know what would cause the steering wheel to start shimmying at speeds above 50. THis just started hapening for no reason.
