Strange sound?

1994 LT1.

There is a strange sound, almost like a quick...well...passing of the gas, that my car does right after it is started. I never noticed it before, until I was in my friends C4 and he pointed it out. But recently, I have noticed it every time. Does any one know what this is? It sounds like it comes from the rear end. Could it be some pump kicking on to build pressure somewhere?

Not worried, just curious.

My car if I just turn the key to the on position you will sometimes hear the fuel pump build pressure, but other then that I can hear the ABS kick on right after the car is started...

Vettefan87 is right, it is the ABS self-test. Mine comes on when my car starts moving about 3-5 mph. Just a quick whirring/pumping sound and that's it.

But his car may be different since its the "newer" of the C4's with the LT1. If it is the ABS unit you dont have anything to worry about.

Thanks guys. I thought it might be the ABS doing something, but I wasn't sure. I wasn't worried that anything was wrong, just curious what the sound was so that if someone was ever in the car, and said "What was that?" I can say "Oh, it's the ABS self-check." instead of "Dunno. Weird, huh?"

Lol. Speaking of strange noises, my LT1 makes what I can only describe as a belch when I shut off the engine. What's with that? Compression leaking down?
