Where is it? Is it on the drivers side next to the oil pan, I have a canister there , but unlike any oil filter I am used to, also can it be replaced?

Not a stupid question .Inside of the canister is a oil filter not like the ones we are used to its a special style. Also when you get a new filter make sure you get a new gasket for the canister

Thanks, info is great!

However, will I be able to find this filter in any parts store, or will I need a specialty store?

I bought three of them at Autozone this winter. I would think that NAPA, among others, would also have them. By the way, I love your car! I had a black '57 (with a black cove) and the "red" interior 30 years ago. I'm starting to get serious about looking for another.

I removed mine years ago and put a GM adapter for a spin on filter. If it isn't a TQ, you might consider switching. You get a pop off valve in the adapter plate as a bonus. You are also able to fill the filter before installing - to minimize run time without oil pressure. The heavy duty truck spin on filters are the same price as the small ones, and they hold about the same as the can that comes with the car.
