Question: superchips microtuner

so if i was going to tune my 01 what would i need to do it the RIGHT way!!
I have only used HP Tuners hardware / software. If you are serious about tuning an LS1 engine, then I would recommend (Chevy | Camaro | Firebird Reviews, Performance Parts, Modifications - LS1Tech.com) LS1Tech (PCM Diagnostics / Tuning).

The HP Tuners hardware / interface is about $500. In order to use it on a vehicle, you have to purchase a "key" ($100, i believe, but may be included with the original price initially), which is good for one vehicle only. The key is good for unlimited flashes on that particular vehicle. To tune another car, you need to purchase another key.

You will also need a laptop (of course) and a power inverter (70 - 100 watt) to keep the laptop going in your car for extended data logging sessions. Don't be shy about asking questions at LS1Tech, but do your homework first. They are very helpful over there when it comes to tuning.

Tuning a stock C5 won't gain too much since GM did not leave much on the table (HP / Torque wise), but you can definitely improve "driveability".

When I bought my 1999 convertible a previous owner installed a Corsa cat-back w/ X pipe. Since this was a "freebie" with the vehicle purchase, I wanted to install headers and free up a few extra ponies. I wanted to keep my cats and also wanted to be able to do all the work myself. I finally decided on shorty headers (although most people say they do not net much power). I also installed a new intake manifold and larger throttle body w/ larger MAF housing. After tuning this combination made a huge difference. I have not dynoed it, but for the money spent and the fun factor, it was worth it for me.

I actually get the same gas mileage, if you can believe that, when I keep my foot out of it.
