I recently bought a radiator that requires a surge tank. I didn't realize they are so small. My original radiator is 26" wide, compared to this one, which 18" wide... it won't even fit my core support.

Are the 'surge tank variety' of brass radiators as efficient as the larger brass ones? Not sure that I want to go through the hassle of a complete change-over if there is not a benefit. I may go with a Dewitts aluminum one at a later time.

Thanks for your input.

There's another string posted recently about the different radiator configs. You may want to read that. Basically one is not inherently more efficient than the other, just different.

Why not just get the correct config for your car and not go through the hassle of trying to Bubba up a make-do solution?

Mikey,

Thanks for the reply.

I bought the surge tank radiator on eBay and didn't know it was not the same as the ones used on 1969 350 cid/350 hp. It was advertised to fit 63-72 Corvette small blocks --- which is true, I guess. Oh well, live and learn... again (sigh).

I agree with you, I'll stick with the original coniguration.

If it requires an expansion tank, is 18" wide and is copper/brass with end tanks, you don't want any part of that - it's a cheap "look-alike" replacement for the original 316 aluminum Harrison radiator, and has about 35% less cooling capacity; it won't get the job done.

I'm going to stick with the original. I don't think the investment in the conversion would be much of an added benefit.

My original radiator is the one that requires the four brackets on the core support. It's much bigger than the one I recently purchased that requires the surge tank.
