T-top Drop

I hope this is the correct forum this subject. Sunday was a bad day for me, cracked the driver side t-top while it was in the back.

Anway has anyone ordered replacement tops from a company called "Thompson Astro Tops" and if so what kind of fit and service did you receive? This company is located in Florence, Alabama. The price for replacement set with rebuidable frame is pretty good I think.

If anyone has suggestions on where to purchase new set let me know. Ecklers has them for $999.99 per set. That's a little expensive isn't it?

That is about right for a set of t-tops.

I had my t-tops stolen in 1988, and it was $1,000 a set back then from GM. I went to the salvage yard and lucked into a set of tops.

If you are looking for Original Glass tops, Thompsons is not the place. The going price for OEM style Glass Mirrored T-Tops is at least $1,000 per set or more.

Thompsons offers an Acrylic (plastic) replacement set of Panels, or one piece panel for the C3. (I just bought the one piece for my 1980 and so far so good.)

The thing to know here is what do you really want. The original tops were silver mirror finish with blue tint from the inside. Many places will sell you a replacement glass top that is bronze mirror and not OEM equipment. If your car is being judged, these aren't what you want. The Thompson Astro Top is a black finish just like the Acrylic tops on the C4 & C5.

not sure if you are talking about their one piece top or not, I have had one for 3 years and have had no problems other then the room it takes up carrying it around when off. But I have speakers and a CD player in the back of mine (76).

Check Ebay. I sold a set of mirrored T top off my wreacked 80 for $650. I have brought the solid T top in good condition for $250 for the pair. You just have to keep checking. I've done over $5000 of buying and sell Corvette part on Ebay. Good Luck.

We purchased a new top for our 94 for $485 at Bloomington Gold when work (I work at a Chevy store) wanted $989 my cost. The top is quality and I know they carry t-tops too. Great people.

Thanks for all that have replied. I'm not sure what I want to do. The car is a driver and it has great paint and good interior. I'm working on the mechanics of the car, did the complete rear in December and now working on possibility of new engine and transmission. It's a never ending project and that's what I like about it and getting the looks from all those who see it. Then I go and do something stupid.....

Thompson's has plastic tops. I have a pair. They need to be polished with plastic polish, but they have been great. They fit about as well as the glass tops. But like all T-tops, that's not perfect and we have all accepted it as such! They are black on the outside surface, and amger on the inside. They don't appear to get as hot as the glass ones, and they are lighter too.

I went with them because I have been down the road for a cracked top. I had a theif smash my glass top out to get a kenwood tape player. The cost seemed to be just a little more than I had in collge. That was about ten years ago!

I replaced my tops with the Astro II (two piece) in 1997. No problems at all. No leaks either.

Earlier today, I found a man in Las Vegas selling ONE mirrored top for a c-3 Corvette . . when I learned it was only one, frankly, I didn't give it a second thought-- but it was in the "sunroof" section - - maybe it'll work for you !
