T-top question

I have T-Tops on my '78. If I am correct, there are 2 panes of glass in each T-Top; and inner and an outer. On my car, the outer pane on each top is cracked. I have found a guy that has a wrecked '79 vette. It has what appears to be the same tops. On his, the inner panes are cracked and the outers are in good shape. He is asking $200 for the pair. That fits my budget more than a $1,000 replacement.

I have 2 questions:

1. Will the tops from a '79 fit a '78?
2. Is it an easy job to take them apart and replace the glass? Or does it require special tools and expertise?

I think you will find that it's simply a laminated safety glass and although there are individual panels, they have been bonded together and not able to be separated. There have been severeal threads however about repair services for glass replacement.

I didn't know they were a "bonded" piece. That changes everything. I may take a look at those one Astro one piece tops. There seems to be more good responses than bad responses on the forums. My goal is not to restore to factory state, but have a good enjoyable car for the wife and myself and sunny days. So, it doesn't have to be stock as long as it longs like it "could have been" stock.

If you're willing to be patient, you can find darn near anything on E-Bay . . .single t-tops, sets, astro-tops and everything in between. I'm headed for the Twin Cities next week so do me a favor - - - cool, low humidity and no rain. OK ?

No can do. Next week... hot, humid, t-storms every day. This week, cold, humid, t-storms every day. I have a sailboat. I have only been able to go out on it once this year. May.. 10th wettest on record, June... coldest in over a decade, July... ???
