t-top trim... anybody? please help

The stainless trim around my t-tops is twisted and slightly warped. Can I replace it, remove it, straighten it? What are my options?

Thanks for your comments about the 76 Vega steering Wheel.:confused

Try taking it to a Sheetmetal shop for them to look at. Maybe they can straigthen it on a sheetmetal brake or another way. If its dull in appearance, you might want to consider replacing it . Youll have a very hard time finding a NEW one though -- but there are nice used ones which can be buffed out .Thats what i had to do with mine a few years back.

Thanks Dave. I guess my next question would be how is the trim attached and removed? I am reluctant to just start pulling weatherstrip off to see what is under it. Can the trim be easily removed?

The stainless steel t top moulding can be very easily removed. There are screws on the top and on each side and some in the front. I think y ou have to remove the front panels to reach the front screws...cant remember for sure. Once youve removed all the screws which hold it on, , gently pry it up and off. It is usually stuck on from old weatherseals underneath so be gentle and patient with it. On the front of the t top moulding, there is a little lip that slips underneath the front windshield chrome pieces, so you should probably loosen them a little while your at it , so you can pull the t top moulding out.

Thanks again Dave. Based on your comments it seems we may be talking about different things. It sounds like you are talking about the moulding on the top of the windshield. I am talking about the trim on the leading edge of the t-top itself.

Im speaking of the shiny t top 'part' that is on the outside on the very top of your t top bar. If you are referring to the interior trim piece that is on the inside, then this also is simple to remove.
